In light of Obi's confession of being a Star Trek geek, it got me to thinking way back to my college days. Every Sunday night a few of us would be up late after the 10:00 news to check out the next episode. Load a bowl, grab a cold beer and pony up for a pizza run.

I have to say my favorite episode os a toss-up between "The Inner Light" and "Darmok".

those were "dress" uniforms, only used when dignataries were onboard the ship.

apparently Patrick Stewart is a big fan of Family Guy, he has done a few cameos. They had Frakes and Dorn on once and they did a spoof. Picard told Riker about a joke about Warfs forhead. Warf got pissed and told them to suck his ridges, it was fucking awesome!!

we arn't referring to the dress uniforms (which were liek a short dress top with mathicng pants)
We are referrign to Encounter at Far point and 1 or 2 episodes after where extras , people in the back ground - there would be a man wearing a dress.

I'm all BSG now. As a huge fan of the original series, I was skeptical when I heard they creating a remake of sorts. But this is so completely different that I can't really compare the two. The ship is called Galactica and they are looking for Earth. That's pretty much where any similarities stop.

Favorite episodes? That's a tough one. I'll go season-by-season:

1 (pretty much all of them sucked, but if forced to choose...):

Encounter at Farpoint (just for the sake of All Good Things...)
Where No One Has Gone Before (even though the Traveller pisses me off)

2 (last season of shitty writing staff that went on strike and got replaced by Bragga, Moore, and Pillar...yay!):

A Matter of Honor (one of the best Klingon episodes)
The Measure of a Man
The Royale (featuring Data's best quote of the series: "Baby needs a new pair of shoes.")
Q Who (first full appearance of Borg)

3 (the season that ST:TNG started to round into form...analogous to the 97-98 Spurs):

Deja Q (Q stripped of powers...one of the most introspective episodes)
Matter of Perspective
Yesterday's Enterprise (one of the very finest episodes, featuring "Shooter" McGavin of Happy Gilmore fame...with the previous two episodes, the best three-in-a-row)
Sins of the Father (beginning of the best Worf story-arch)
Hollow Pursuits (Barclay at his very finest..."Computer, belay that order!")
Sarek (featuring Patrick Stewart's best scene of the series)
Best of Both Worlds I (with part II, top 5 episode)

4 (first truly excellent season, analogous to 98-99 Spurs):

Best of Both Worlds II (with part I, top 5 episode)
Family (with Sarek, one of only two episodes where Picard cries)
Brothers (with previous two episodes, second best three-in-a-row)
Remember Me (freaky and cool, good Bev Crusher episode, but I still hate the Traveller)
Data's Day (great off-paradigm episode, similar to Lower Decks)
The Wounded (great O'Brien episode)
Clues (along with Remember Me, Cause and Effect and Conundrum one of the best "mystery" episodes)
Redemption I (another great Worf episode)

5 (great on paper, choked in the playoffs, analogous to the 00-01 Spurs):

Redemption II
Darmok (people either love it or hate it...Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra!)
The Game (great episode about addiction, and Ashley Judd is HOT!)
Conundrum
Ethics (great episode about experimental medicine and Hippocratic ethics)
Cause and Effect (amazing episode, Frazier from Cheers cameo)
The First Duty (I hate Wesley Crusher, and it's great to see Picard totally annihilate his ass in this one)
Unification (Spock is the shit!)
I, Borg (wow...the ethics of genocide and the genesis of self-awareness!!)
The Inner Light (top 5 episode)
Time's Arrow I (amazing in so many ways)

6 (most satisfying season of the show, analogous to 02-03 championship Spurs team):

Time's Arrow II
Relics (great TOS guest star, great sci-fi plot with the Dyson Sphere, great interaction between Scottie, Geordi, and Picard)
Schisms (so creepy!)
Chain of Command I and II (effects of torture...Picard: "There are FOUR lights!")
Ship In A Bottle (Moriarty as super-villain...again!)
Face of the Enemy (excellent Troi episode)
Tapestry (best...episode...EVER!)
The Chase (second...best...episode...EVER!)
Frame of Mind (like Dostoyevsky's "The Double," an amazing portrayal of the descent into madness)
Timescape
Descent I (I love Data!)

7 (everything just comes to together and takes it all in the clutch, just like the 04-05 Spurs!):

Descent II
Gambit I and II
Phantasms (Data have mad fucked up dreams and getting counselled by Freud on the holodeck...how can you go wrong?)
Attached (about time these two hooked-up, so to speak :))
Force of Nature (warp drive pollution)
Parallels (best Worf episode)
The Pegasus (great Riker episode)
Lower Decks (Riker: "Geordi, you don't have to leave just because I'm unbeatable!")
Masks (I think I'm the only person in this quadrant who likes this episode, but it's right up there with Fistful of Datas as Brent Spiner's best performance)
Genesis (devolution of the crew...a great Halloween episode)
Emergence (great AI episode)
All Good Things... (I've argued this point with a hundred people, and I remain firmly convinced that this was the greatest final episode of any TV show ever)

Honorable Mention:
The Offspring
First Contact (Riker hooks up with an alien Lilith from Cheers)
The Nth Degree (Computer: "No such device exists." Brainiac Barclay: "Okay, let me tell you how to build it.")
Disaster
True Q (Olivia D'Abo from the Wonder Years is HOT!)
Booby Trap
The Enemy
Suspicions

Alright, so here's all of that boiled down into a digestible format...
CONQUESO'S TOP TEN BEST ST:TNG EPISODES OF ALL-TIME:

10. Relics (6)
9. Parallels (7)
8. Cause and Effect (5)
7. The Lower Decks (7)
6. Inner Light (5)
5. Yesterday's Enterprise (3)
4. Best of Both Worlds I & II (3/4)
3. All Good Things... (7)
2. The Chase (6)
1. Tapestry (6)

And as an extra-added bonus...
CONQUESO'S TOP TEN WORST ST:TNG EPISODES OF ALL-TIME:

10. Cost of Living (I hate Lwaxana, and I hate Alexander, and therefore, I am required to hate this episode that focuses on the two of them together)
9. The Dauphin (wow...just, wow...)
8. Q-Pid (you would have expected great things from a Picard-Q reunion set in Sherwood Forest, but what you got was worse than Men In Tights (which incidentally also featured Patrick Stewart in his THIRD period piece about Robin Hood!).)
7. Reunion (first appearance of Alexander, perhaps the only character on the show more annoying than Wesley Crusher...shame on you Moore and Braga!)
6. Violations (forgive me for disparaging the plight of rape victims, but seriously, this episode licks Ferengi chode)
5. Rascals (Picard, Ro and Guinan as children...what the fuck was Pillar thinking?! Directed by Spock's real life son)
4. Journey's End (the only reason this p.c. drivel about Native Americans isn't number one is because it's Wesley Crusher's last episode...YAY!)
3. Sub Rosa (written by Braga and directed by Frakes, you would have expected a gem...and instead you got a truly wretched episode)
2. The Loss (cry me a fucking river Troi)
1. Shades of Grey (they weren't sure whether or not there was going to be a third season...and this piece of shit was going to be their swan song?!?)

Yeah, I'm a nerd.

I really liked TNG in it's first run - after the first two cheesey seasons. Now that I'm really old I appreciate DS9 more as a drama, its flawed characters were in constant conflict that was slow to resolve, if ever. Sure there were fewer "strange new worlds" and there was about one season's worth of throwaway episodes, but it set out to be different from TNG and I thought it succeeded on several levels. I'm still fascinated by the fact it was allowed enough time to finish its run, but the end itself was completely ambiguous -- maybe two characters had a "happily ever after" experience while everyone else was still or newly fucked in one way or another. I can only think of Detective Bayliss' fall from grace on Homicide as a more unconventional series finale, but that was kind of expected.

I really liked Enterprise once I got used to the over the top space boob factor, and I'm sorry I didn't watch Firefly when it was on. BG is pretty interesting, I'll probably catch up on it someday.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Next_Generation

Quoting, in pertinent part:

"As a running gag, bathrooms are never shown on Enterprise schematics. The gag was started when toilets were accidentally omitted from the design of the original Enterprise. This joke is referenced in Star Trek: First Contact when Zefram Cochrane asks Geordi La Forge "...don't you people from the 24th century ever pee?" In a special, aired before the final episode, Jonathan Frakes actually answered the question of where one could actually find a bathroom on a diagram of the ship, and pointed to a diagram of the Enterprise seen in Engineering, indicating where it was."

OWG, this might be an inappropriate question, but it's so rare that I meet a female ST fan that I just have to ask:

Would you hook up with Data?

We all know that he's programmed in various techniques, but those tripolymer composites probably don't feel as soft and supple as human flesh. Let's assume for the sake of argument that Data's "member" can change size and shape and perform different vibrating functions, but does all of that make up for a complete lack of passion, fervor, and warmth? Furthermore, most women say that they find a sense of humor sexy, and Data certainly lacks that quality.

I can't really believe I'm saying this, but if I were a woman, Data would be my booty call, a big walking dildo that I could also bitch and moan to if I wanted. Now I know that position disrespects Data's status as a sentient entity or whatever, but ladies do that shit to real human men all the time, so why couldn't they do it to a fake human man?

Seeing as how your favorite episode is the Naked Now, I'm sure you've probably thought about this at length (pun kind of intended), so do you have any other insights?

Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher) would have mad bravatar.

I just saw her starring in some commercial. Something about business or computers or some garbage. Maybe IBM business solutions or something. It was definitely her though.

Well, I'm not a woman, but I have a few insights on this...

What if he had his emotion chip? With that, he's practically human. Also, Data does have a great sense of humor. Often it's intentional, but still, he's very funny. Certainly funnier than anyone else on the show. Also, the stuff about women liking a sense of humor is complete bullshit. It's just something they say to not sound shallow. If sense of humor mattered, I wouldn't have the energry or inclination to be typing right now. Yeah, it might matter a little, but it's not in the top ten, trust me.

But I like the booty call idea. Data would be very discreet. He could keep a secret. You tell him to not tell anybody, and he won't. Still, it'd be kind of embarassing, if there's a sudden red alert or something, if Riker had to ask the computer where Data was, and it said he was in so and so's room.

That was some awesome shit.
It killedme tho how many ST characters had this deep seeded hate for Capt. Picard after that whole episode... I know he destroyed whole systems and killed 1000's of people.... but come on.
it wasn;t his fault. He;s cured... and he;s hott as hell. :princess

My opinion of changed just a bit when I saw on the internet his birthday tribute to Gene Roddenberry. That was the frutiest shit I've ever seen, and I saw brokeback mountain...

The Next Generation was probably my favourite show growing up, and is still one of my favourites. I can't afford the freakin' DVD box sets though so I'm limited to catching the occasional episode in syndication nowadays.

As good as it sounds on paper i know iut would never work out in real life (or in a fantasy sci-fi tv show ;life.. whatever).
Notice how everyone around Data has intense feeligns for him. Sure - emotionchip-less he wouldn;t have any reciprocal feelings... but even then he does expericance "friendship" ( i belive he said somethign about the regular patterns that his experiances with certain crew members created in his programming that become relied apon & then missed when absent) and eventually (most likely sooner rather than later) he;d pick up on the fact that he was being used. He wouldn;t appreciate it.
Also I myslef & most other ladies probably wouldn't go thru with just using Data as a booty call.
It;d have to be more than that or nothign at all...... Data ends up being regulated to what basically corresponds today as a ladies gay best friend.

With the emotionchip? Yeah, I'd hook up with Data. He's semi good looking, fit, has a great job, funny as hell, and has alot of side interest like painting & playing the violin.
whatever his friggin dick can or cannot do isn't really an issue. besides - all they said was that he was programed in a variety of techniques - not hat he;s freaking robo dick.

and this is juts about the strangest ST:TNG question that was ever asked of me or answered.

Tell you how much of a SF geek I am, I'm still holding out hope that someone will bring back Fox's "Space: Above And Beyond" and "Harsh Realm".

If Space Above and Beyond was the FOX show on Sundays right after football with the young Marines fighting the Chigs, I'm with you. Never heard of Harsh Realm, though. My tastes in science fiction for the most part are more in books than TV or movies.

Holy shit! This thread is headed for the delta quadrant. The inner geek in me has awaken and I can't put it back. Hell, I was around when TOS was originally aired. I won't let this thread die yet. So, I propose...

Battle of the Starship Captains!

The four Captains of the starships:Kirk (Enterprise NCC-1701/A), Picard Enterprise NCC-1701D/E), Janeway (Voyager NCC-74656) and Archer (Enterprise NX-01), are to battle each other in hand to hand combat. No weapons, no gloves, no rules once inside the ring. All captains will fight each other once. Points will be given to each fighter as follows:

15 Points for a win
Losers will earn from 0 to 10 points for style, cuts opened on an opponent and bones broken on an opponent. Losers points are judged on a "subjective" scale.

The top 2 fighters in points compete in a winner take all match to see who is the toughest starship captain ever.

First battle:

Kirk vs. Janeway

First into the ring is Katherine Janeway. She is wearing black trunks with a white midriff tank top and her hair in a ponytail, not unlike anything you might see 21st century female boxers wear. Next of course is James Kirk. He has chosen to wear his standard issue Starfleet captains uniform complete with the optional, "funky green" semi-wrap around top.

The bell sounds. Kirk starts off with an open hands at waist level semi-circling of Janeway. Janeway takes more of a martial arts stance with her fists clenched and at the ready around chest level and employing a slight hopping motion in response to Kirk's circling movement.

Kirk steps in quickly and retreats in several mock attacks in order to draw out her offensive strategy, but Janeway isn't biting. Her expression is one of great determination and concentration. She knows that she's the underdog in this tournament and really wants to make a good showing. Suddenly, Kirk swoops in, jukeing from right to left. Janeway spins sideways and allows Kirk to pass without so much as breathing on her. Kirk stumbles onto the mat in shock. Janeway now has a slight smile to go with that look of determination.

Now its time for Kirk to try the direct approach. As he charges forward, he is met with the bottom of Janeway's shoe. With a wild spray of blood from Kirk's newly broken nose, he goes reeling backward and falls flat on his back with his arms spread wide...is he out already?

As Janeway cautiously nears (still in her martial arts stance) to finish Kirk off, he catches her off guard behind the knee and knocks her onto her back. However, Kirk has her right leg in a scissor hold and is administering some payback for the nose. Janeway looks more angry than in pain but is somewhat disabled by the hold. She tries to kick Kirk with her free leg, but to no avail. As Kirk lets loose of the scissor hold, he gives a quick, but effective kick to Janeway's kidney area.

Kirk retreats to the far end of the ring in order to clear his head from what must be tremendous pain as his nose is bleeding profusely and pushed sideways onto his face vaguely resembling a Picasso. Janeway meanwhile, slowly gets up and rests cautiously against the ropes. She is holding the small of her back and seems to have a limp as her formerly scissored leg and sore kidney are apparently on the same side. Janeway points to Kirk and yells something unintelligible at him. She then proceeds to grab the front of her tank top and rip it in half from the front.

Due to the swift ripping motion, Janeway has also pulled the front of her bra sideways, revealing her breasts! However, judging from the fact that she is wearing a push-up bra as opposed to a sports bra, leads one to believe that this may actually be some kind of strategy for Janeway. And indeed it is! Kirk cannot believe his eyes. It is truly a case of "shock and awe" for Jim Kirk.

Janeway's look of determination has changed to a seductive smile as she removes her hair tie and lets her hair hang naturally at her bare shoulders. Kirk returns a crooked smile. Janeway then beckons Kirk with the classic "come hither" finger motion. Kirk approaches slowly, their eyes not quite meeting as Kirk cannot stop looking at her breasts. As Kirk reaches out to offer a consoling hand of friendship (and love?), Janeway knees Kirk in the groin so hard that fans as far as the 12th row swear that they heard something "pop".

Surprisingly, Kirk is not floored by this action, but is making these little tiny steps in a small circle with his hands firmly on his junk and his eyes rolled far enough back that he could see his own spinal cord. Janeway proceeds to kick and punch at Kirk, although he is able to keep his back to her as the only defense that he can muster at this time.

As Janeway is pummeling Kirk (mostly on the back of his head and his back), one notices that Kirks eyes are pointed forward again. In a swift and fluid motion, Kirk punches Janeway in the stomach with a mighty left hand. As Janeway doubles over in pain and shock, Kirk follows with a horrific right handed upper-cut to Janeway's jaw. A loud cracking sound can be heard as Janeway goes sprawling to the canvas. Janeway is not moving...Janeway is out!

As the medical crew revives Janeway, we speak with Captain Kirk:

reporter: Sir, were you at all surprised by your opponent?
Kirk: Damn right I was! The bitch knew about my weakness for women and she used the hell out of it. Nearly beat me too!
reporter: If you see her again in the finals, will you be more cautious with her?
Kirk: I hope so. As long as she doesn't do that boob thing again.

Now a few words with Captain Janeway:

reporter: Ma'am, as you know, you are the obvious underdog in this tournament.
Janeway: Tell me something I don't know Einstein.
reporter: Actually, my question is, do you think you have a real chance against these men?
Janeway: I almost beat him didn't I? Actually, I didn't think he had much in him, the son of a bitch just got a lucky punch didn't he? I should have won...he's a fucking pussy. Look punk, think about this; Picard is an old man and Archer is a 22nd century retard. So, do I think I can win? How about I kick your ass and you answer the fucking question.

Leaderboard:

Kirk - 15 points (1 win)
Janeway - 10 points (style, bloodletting)
Archer - 0
Picard - 0

Next match: Archer vs. Picard (tba)

^^^Man, I probably shouldn't drink so much during the week.^^^

Yeah, obviously Kirk takes Janeway...that's like Pistons vs. Heat in the ECF.

The more compelling match-up is Picard vs. Archer:

Archer is a little bitch. Every time I watch that poorly-written piece-of-shit show galavanting around as part of the Star Trek universe, I want to gouge my eyes out with a melon-ball scooper. I keep waiting for Scott Bakula to step into the transporter, disappear, and rematerialize in Alabama in the 1950's as a black man about to get lynched, uttering his infamous "oh boy" and whining for Al to show up and get him out of another pickle.

As far as fighting skills go, Archer was impressive against that Andorian fuck-stick in the episode of Enterprise that gets rerun at least once a week here on Austin's WB. Other than that, he licks Ferengi chode. Picard, on the other hand, has been assimilated by the Borg, tortured by the Cardassians, and surgically altered to look like a Romulan...in short, he's a hardcore mother fucker. Archer might be taller, younger, and have more hair, but Picard is a Star Fleet captain for the ages...he was the only Freshman in the history of the Academy to win the marathon at Delulin II for christ's sake! Not only that, but he single-handedly oversaw the merciless slaughter of all-hands on 39 starships at the Battle of Wolf 359, so we know he's got great big balls.

As far as philandering goes, Picard has the clear edge. Archer couldn't hit it with T'Pol, the hottest woman to ever play a regular role on a Star Trek series. Picard on the other hand nailed fly bitches left and right (albeit at a rate much slower than Kirk), scored with Crusher in an alternate universe, and could have bedded Troi if he'd pulled rank on Riker a little more often.

Picard takes Archer in two rounds...analogous to the Spurs taking Dallas in the WCSF.

Picard vs. Kirk? That's a different story altogether....

ObiwanGinobili
04-03-2006, 09:12 AM
I agree.
Picard totally kicks Archer's ass.
Although I'm thinking it'll take 3 rounds seeing as how Archer does have an edge being young and all.
But Picards experiance and general steel ballsyness wins out.

Picard vs. Kirk?
Now I'm sure alot of TOS purists would be all "kirk hands down"... whatever.
I'm going with a Picard win after 8 rounds.
Why? Style. Kirk uses the same damn hands open circle and wild west right hooks every flipping fight he;s ever been in.
Picard knows various techniques and is an apt student. After watching Kirk circle the ring 2 or 3 times he could basically tell him what he;'s going to do before he does it.
