Since LJ and I found each other and got married because of the SpursReport board and Spurswoman and Useruser found each other through this board, then it's safe to conclude that all good relationship start with the Spurs. :)

I feel like I was interrupting a blossoming friendship between KEDA and Sunshine by getting rid of another thread. So this thread is the place to re-kindle it.

After your proclamation last night about "eating at the Y," you might need to break out the big guns early.

But seriously, though, I don't want to hijack the thread...I've met some good friends on here throughout my time and will always be glad to meet more.

besides I know people at every center in San Antonio, Austin, Houston and South Texas. When I go on a date, I usually dont like to be bothered, and that wont happen in a bowling center.

I like having met someone on a Spurs forum ... right off the bat we had several things in common. :)

missmyzte
03-26-2006, 03:39 PM
The funny thing about these forums is that we do make friends, sometimes friends that we will never meet and sometimes you do end up meeting. Chris (NZ Spurs) from New Zealand was in LA a couple days ago, I took him to a Laker game. I remember my first trip to San Antonio where I stayed with and hung out with people I'd known for 2 weeks on a forum. A good friend in Illinois, a couple people in France, it's truly a global community.

The funniest thing is the couple times I've been shown on TV at Spurs games, people tell me they yell out, "Hey, I know her! ..... well, kinda." :lol

:lol Awww, the title of this thread is very true! My boyfriend and I first started talking...because of basketball! He plays on one of these private leagues and I was wearing my Spurs Tshirt to class one day, and he walked by me and said, "Spurs fan?!" They're so boring!" In which we got into a heated debate over....turns out he's a Rockets/TMac/Sixers fan. Our first date we ended up going to a Sixers vs. Sacramento game...and the rest as they say is history :)

I'm still trying to convert him into becoming a Spurs fan though. :lol

This seems like the right thread, can I get some advice?

I met this girl at a bar a couple weeks ago. She had the amazing coincedence of being Turkish, like me, and a Spurs fan, like me. That's the good.

Here's the bad...

I go to SDSU, she goes to UCSD, and I only met here because she's a huge SDSU basketball fan.

She might be completely crazy. She claims she's Hedo Turkoglu's cousin, but this girl was gorgeous, and Hedo, not so much, y'know? Also, she says she's best friends with the best player on the SDSU basketball team, but just platonically. I don't think that's the kind of dude who's gonna be friends with any hot chicks platonically.

But yeah, this girl is WAAAAAY out of my league, and might be insane. Should I ignore the bizarre coincedence of her ethnicity, NBA interests, and proximity?

I've made some great friends through online forums, this one included, even though it's been a while since I actively participated or attended a GTG. Anyone who doubts that online friends are real has never made a friend online.

I met one of my very best friends on an MSN politics forum; she and I helped moderate that site for awhile when it split off from another board. My Mom was convinced she was an ax murder for awhile, the first time I drove to Houston to meet this friend, my Mom was scared to death. I called her when I got to my friend's house and told her, "I'm sitting here in the living room with the ax murderer and her cat, and so far, I'm ok." We still laugh about that; when I saw her in February in Galveston, she asked me if my Mom still thinks she's an ax murder :lol . She and I have traveled together some. We have been to Vegas twice (the first time we went to Vegas was the first time either of us had been and we had a blast!). We go to Galveston 2-3 times a year for a weekend. I have also been to visit her several times at her house. And I have made several day trips to Houston to meet other folks we met on the board. Lots of fun.

No online romances, but I'm not looking for that, anyway.

We all deserve offices!!

You should see what the federal government thinks of me, then, after 30 1/2 years of faithful service. When I moved where I am right now, I CHOSE the spot (after being downgraded over the years from bad to worse to worst office space). When my boss asked me why I wanted to sit here, I told him, "This is the worst spot in the whole place. If I sit here, I know you can't ever put me anywhere worse." Been here about 5 years now.

(my consolation: 21 months to retirement eligibility)

Hey Travis- I said I am message board love poison because, as I stated earlier, I dated a guy from another Spurs board and he broke my heart in ways I didn' think were possible... So I was trying really hard to turn my ugly experience into some good mojo for Keda and Sunshine. What could be better than that?
Which spurs board? I had the same thing happen to me. Totally sucks when someone breaks their promises and your heart :(
I hope it works out for ya Keda cause it sure as hell didn't for me :lol. You sound like a really nice guy, even though we never spoke haha ;)
I have met some really amazing people on the boards and online in general though. Friendships I hope to never lose.

Going to games or going somewhere to watch them was something my friend and I have always done...whether or not there has been a man around. My ex-husband hated basketball, as a matter of fact.

I even spent a couple of grand on a pair of season tickets with no steady occupant for the 2nd seat. Of course, it was never hard to find one but still.... :lol

I like them, no doubt. :hat

Original topic:

I've made good, very good friends online. Lifelong friends. I've stated it before, but from my other board, I had a woman fly in from Vancouver, BC, Canada to officiate my wedding, while another woman flew in (with her husband, who ran errands all day long) from Wisconsin to be my bridesmaid. We are all (about 20 of us) *really* tight on that board.

And after being here almost a year, I feel like I've made some good friends here too. I know I look forward to coming on here as much as I look forward to my other board. I know I've gotten lots of encouragement, and it's so great to be able to keep up so well with the team from a distance.

SFIE introduced me to this site, so we certainly didn't meet here, but loving the Spurs was a foundation of our relationship. It's actually less about the Spurs (but they are a big part of our lives) than just having something in common. We were both from the area, we both share similar values and common desires.

Two years before I met Jason, I wrote down all the things I was looking for in a partner, and promptly forgot about it. About a year after we got engaged, I stumbled across it when cleaning out my computer files. Jason was a perfect match, which I was amazed by, but I was utterly amused by the fact that prominently placed on the list were "Must be able to accept my never ending love for Tim Duncan and the Spurs and cheer along." as well as "Must be able to appreciate that I scream my head off during a game, but only because I care so much."

:rollin

As for my office:

I got the short end of the stick - I'm the only full time staff member here who doesn't have an office. I don't even have a cubicle. I work in our main office with our student staff (to supervise them?). I have a desk and a credenza filing cabinet. Whoopee!
