If we have 15 players on our team, the fees would be the following:

$395 - $20 (for early registration special) = $375

$375/15 = $25 + $10 per player

$35 per player total!!!!!!!

I play on Thursdays nights in the men's league so I'll give ya'll the low down.

-$65 per player up to 15 players, each player after that is free.
-You have to use their softballs, which are $5 each
-You start off with 1 strike and 1 ball, you are given a batters foul ball after two strikes, any foul ball after that is a third strike.
-E league is 1 homerun allowed, each homerun after is an out. D league is 7 homeruns.
-Games are 55 min., after the time is up and if you're tied and go to extra innings, you have just one pitch. strike you out, foul you walk.
-Run rule 20 after 3, 15 after 4, 10 after 5
-8.50 a pitcher, two dollar deposit for the pitcher.
-If ya'll are going to buy bats, make sure their not banned.

That should do it.

For one you have to pay the 395 way before the season starts and head to the office to do it, where Ancira as long as you tell them you're playing they only require you pay at least 260 the first game, then the rest the second.

The 10 additional is for a city ordinance, which you will pick up the roster form when you pay the 395 and need to have everybodys additional 10 a week before the season. Ancira you fill all that out on the first game.

I just saves you having to meet everybody and needing to drive out the pay twice, where Ancira you do it all the sameday on game day. We only play with 10 players so nobody sits, the cost is not worth the extra hassle, its only around 8 dollars more.

Now if you have 12-15, then the extra effort is worth it.

I'd be interested, but before I was in I'd have to be sold that everyone who says they are going to play would actually show up. There's nothing worse than joining a leauge and having to forfiet a few games along the year because people don't show up.

It is too easy for people to say they are interested and then never follow up. They think "hey neat" then never think about it again.

Right.

I checked on SA Rec and they don't offer games on Sunday, so Ancira is the way we'd have to go if we're determined to play on Sundays (which is probably best for all of us).

Yes, if we wanted team jerseys, we'd have to supply them ourselves. My younger brother's gf's family has a screen printing business, we could more than likely get a good deal there but if you can score a better deal, woohoo!

Ancira doesn't require us to be matching so long as we're dressed decently for a family atmosphere, sorry midge, no baby tees and booty shorts.

But of course, we should match and look like a real team!

All players fees must be paid in full by the 2nd week of league play

That should be a requirement. I don't think Ancira supplies it. I know jcrod has a bunch of gear.

Make sure you have a glove also, a bat, you have to buy your own balls.

It's expensive...

You all going to get some jerseys? When is practice? You should practice to make sure that you have players that can at least get out of the way of a good hit. I've seen so many people go to Ancira looking for a fun time and go home with broken femurs, broken fingers, broken arms, etc. etc...

It's not a picnic league out there.

If there's any doubt you can play on Sundays at Ancira or if you'd be unable to pay the $65 players fee, please let me know so we can either work something out (in reference to the fee, not the date because Sunday has been set) or find a replacement.

I have already talked to my younger brother's gf and she says her family can do our t-shirts for $5/ea. I'm not sure how pricing on screen printing runs but that sounds like a deal to me.

I'd really like to start this thing up ASAP so we can have some fun and kick some ass. So, what do y'all think about getting together in the next couple of weeks to go over things?

Because of the metal/material they're made of. Some supposedly are better than others. The bat shouldn't matter as long as you can hit, but you shouldn't get a cheapo bat it does help. Just look over Ancira's ban list before you buy.

Like Sequ said, it's not cheap. If nobody has a glove, thats $50+, plus a bat which will run you $199+ and you need cleats so you won't slip, $50+. It can run up you real quick. You can get away with 2-3 team bats, but you need more than one because of weight. The run from 26-32 oz.

Yeah, softball seems like a fun sport but Ancira Rec. Leagues are notorious for having those 2-3 softball guys on each coed team that jack the shit out of the ball which in a 10 game season is damn near guaranteed to hit your girl playing second base and someone is going to hurt.

Yeah.. you don't have to have cleats, only "softball guy" has to be in full uniform.

Gloves can be purchased for less than 30. That is correct. A decent bat is about 70 and up.

I played ball at Ancira, SA Rec, Southton, Castillo's Ice House from 95-02, then my number was retired. I am just letting you know about the a-holes that play in the rec. leagues that shouldn't be allowed to play. They ruin the fun for folks like you all.

In a way that is true. A softball strike is when it lands right behind the plate which for me is kind've high.

I always stood in the very back of the box.

Softball gave me broken fingers, a herniated disk and lower back pain. It's not really that fun anymore, but I still go do it every now and then.

In that thing-y of rules that was posted about the banned bats, it says the homerun rules are 4 for men, and an unlimited for women...I don't know if that was for the division we'll be playing in...but that's what that said.

Also, if a man is walked, intentionally or otherwise...he gets an automatic freebee to second, and the female up after him (it has to alternate gender) can choose either to walk to first or take the pitches.

Seriously, I'm not a feminazi or anything, but these rules are almost offensive...like they were written in like 1950 or something when apparently women were weak and couldn't possibly have any skills. I'm thoroughly looking forward to taking complete advantage of them. :smokin :rolleyes :lol

We'll be fine equipment wise as long as we all pitch in and share! Sharing is caring! As far as taking a ball to the body goes, we'll just have to practice throwing softballs at eachother.

This is going to be fun.

Now, we have about 2 months to shape up, team up, and get ready to kick some ass. So, when is everyone free to get together in the next couple of weeks to go over jerseys, equipment, costs, etc? The only days I really can't make it to discuss stuff would be 4/15, 5/6, 5/19-5/21. Other than those days and then of course Spurs Games...I'm good to go.

You can honestly find very good equipment for cheap at discounted stores like TJ Max, Big Lots, and etc. I saw some good gloves at the stores I mentioned like two weeks ago for like $26.99. I remember buying a rawlings softball glove in 1997 at a garage sale for $5.00. The thing was brand new and I still have it. I have played in softball leagues from like '98 to about '04. If I'm understanding these damn rules correctly, there needs to be at least the number of females to the number of males on the field playing defensively with no more than 5 men on the field at any time. So, at least 5 females and 5 males on the field. Does this mean we can have more men on the team than women so long as more men are not actually playing than woman?

I'm going to call to find out.

For example, at my son's last game they were visitors & up 8-7 in the last inning. The other team had 2 outs and the tying run on 3rd ... who stole home on a pass-ball to tie. Well, the batter never left the box ... and in their league that's an automatic out. The other coach either didn't know or didn't say anything, and the ump didn't call it ... but my son's coach (who could probably recite the rule book backwards) was like "Oh, hell no!" and protested it. He was right, the runner was out and we won.

Its surprising how many games are decided by a rule like that. I love those games. When I am on the winning side of course.

You got it. You need five females at all times.

So unless we want the ladies playing the entire game, we're giong to need more than 5 ladies on the team. And to make this fair to the guys without having to substitute them like crazy, we should really only have 6 or 7 guys on the team.

Yup. You should have like seven girls and eight guys on the team.

The funny thing is I've been hit in the head with a baseball while I was batting. It's like anything else, you just have to shake it off.

Yeah, but you're not normal. Normal people don't play basketball with a torn hamstring.

Seriously guys, I don't know why ya'll think I'm discourging. I was trying to be helpful and laughing at some experiences. I never played any type of baseball/softball before last yr and now I can't get enough of it. It's really fun, now I don't know about coed, but you'd be suprised at how seriously these people take their softball.

Ebay is also a good place to buy a glove, I bought a $80 glove for $30. But I would chip in and buy a decent bat, I mean yes you can buy bats for $20 at walmart, but you don't really want those.

You can get away by playing the infield without cleats, but it helps having them in the outfield. Academy has them cheap $30-60.

Goodluck and post how your first game went.

If you end up at Ancira, I may go out and support the team. I always liked playing out there (I have the scars to prove it.) but my softball days are pretty much over. I still occasionally play volleyball out there. I would even buy a t-shirt supporting the team. Good luck!
