Dennis Rodman, who worked out in Denver on Thursday, won't be going to training camp with the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.

General manager Kiki Vandeweghe declined to say Saturday whether the Nuggets still have any interest in Rodman. His agent believes they do.

"We basically decided it was not in Dennis' best interests to go to training camp," said Rodman's agent, Darren Prince, who spoke Saturday with Vandeweghe. "We're going to keep open minds and I'll be in touch with the Nuggets after Oct. 10 (after Rodman plays two games in Mexico)."

Because Rodman is 43, Prince said there was concern about him possibly getting injured if he went through a full training camp.

"He wants to take a little more time in his training, and I understand that," said Vandeweghe, who declined additional comment.

Prince said Rodman will play in games in Monterrey, Mexico next Friday and Oct. 10 with the Fuerza Regia team. Prince said Rodman agreed to play in those games in July, although he was willing to cancel if the Nuggets wanted him to come to training camp Tuesday.

Aside from playing in Mexico, Prince said he also hopes Rodman can scrimmage in the near future with some college players. Prince said Rodman is "fully committed" in his comeback and "wants to get his timing back."

Rodman, a forward who hasn't played in the NBA since March 2000, had an abbreviated workout with the Nuggets on Sept. 21 and a full one Thursday. Vandeweghe and Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said they were impressed with how he looked.

If the Nuggets don't work out, Prince said several other NBA teams have expressed an interest in his client, although he declined to name them. But Prince insists the Nuggets remain interested.
