If the Hornets can find away to pull a big upset tonight they pull into serious contention for race for 8 = great story and of course beating Dallas (who might well have expended a lot of energy coming in and coming back to knock Spurs off) would help Spurs move onto capture 1 seed.
Would love to see the Hornets make the playoffs for the human story as someone who went to the Katrina and TX shelter areas several times, and although doubtful they will do so, I am sure they will give maximum effort tonight.
If they do make the playoffs that would cap their season and should be the easiest possible Spurs opponent and help the Spurs get some rest onto a big second round (assuming Spurs hold onto 1).
Go Hornets!
Ticker available as preview on NBA.com copied below about the matchup:
New Orleans (37-38) at Dallas (57-19) 8:30 pm EDT
DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Mavericks continue their pursuit of the Western Conference's top spot Saturday against the New Orleans Hornets, who are just trying to get into the playoff party.
The Mavericks are coming off a huge 92-86 victory at San Antonio on Friday to move one game behind the Spurs for the lead in both the Southwest Division and the West.
Dirk Nowitzki collected 30 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Howard added 22 and 10 for Dallas, which has won its last 16 games against the Hornets.
The ninth-place Hornets are two games behind both Sacramento and the Los Angeles Lakers, with only two of them earning a postseason berth.
Winners of five of their last six games after a stretch when they lost 12 of 13 games, the Hornets posted a 95-89 home triumph over lowly Toronto. David West collected 19 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets, who held the Raptors to just 38 percent (31-of-82) shooting.
