If the Hornets can find away to pull a big upset tonight they pull into serious contention for race for 8 = great story and of course beating Dallas (who might well have expended a lot of energy coming in and coming back to knock Spurs off) would help Spurs move onto capture 1 seed.

Would love to see the Hornets make the playoffs for the human story as someone who went to the Katrina and TX shelter areas several times, and although doubtful they will do so, I am sure they will give maximum effort tonight.

If they do make the playoffs that would cap their season and should be the easiest possible Spurs opponent and help the Spurs get some rest onto a big second round (assuming Spurs hold onto 1).

Go Hornets!

Ticker available as preview on NBA.com copied below about the matchup:

New Orleans (37-38) at Dallas (57-19) 8:30 pm EDT

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Dallas Mavericks continue their pursuit of the Western Conference's top spot Saturday against the New Orleans Hornets, who are just trying to get into the playoff party.

The Mavericks are coming off a huge 92-86 victory at San Antonio on Friday to move one game behind the Spurs for the lead in both the Southwest Division and the West.

Dirk Nowitzki collected 30 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Howard added 22 and 10 for Dallas, which has won its last 16 games against the Hornets.

The ninth-place Hornets are two games behind both Sacramento and the Los Angeles Lakers, with only two of them earning a postseason berth.

Winners of five of their last six games after a stretch when they lost 12 of 13 games, the Hornets posted a 95-89 home triumph over lowly Toronto. David West collected 19 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets, who held the Raptors to just 38 percent (31-of-82) shooting.

I'd love the Hornets to sneak in to give New Orleans something to cheer about, but with this schedule, the chance is remote.
The Hornets are 14-23 on the road with 4 road games remaining with playoff teams:

Sat 8 @ Dallas (NO probably lose )

Mon 10 Cleveland (NO probably lose)

Wed 12 Seattle (NO could win)

Fri 14 Utah (NO could win)

Sun 16 @ Sacramento (fighting for playoff spot, @ARCO)
Mon 17 @ Phoenix (nuff said)

Wed 19 @ L.A. Lakers (fighting for playoff spot, @Staples)

====================

Hornets could very well go 2 - 5 and into the lottery.

Thanks for not showing up tonight Hornets - they looked like deer in headlights including Paul and West from the get go. Mavs were very hot and motivated and deserved this one, made a few mistakes early when Hornets could have stayed in game but they blew it on the offensive end over and over again.

After 5/6 wins sad to see Hornets not even put up a fight but props (again) to the Mavs who look very good right now.
