Teams are now allowed to keep 13 players on the playoff roster, but must deactivate 1 for each game. Not huge news, but interesting.

NBA Expands Playoff Rosters

NEW YORK, April 11, 2006 – The National Basketball Association announced today that the league’s Board of Governors has approved the expansion of playoff rosters for the 2006 NBA Playoffs.
In the past, teams carried 12-man rosters during the playoffs. This year, teams will be allowed to carry 13-man playoff rosters although only twelve players will be eligible to play in each playoff game. Teams will be required to deactivate one player prior to each game.

NBA teams will have until 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 20 to file their 13-man playoff roster with the league office.

Very interesting. We've been hearing rumors on how this was going to be handled.

I wonder, in the Spurs case, if you keep an extra big (Marks) to help with the injury problems of Duncan and Horry, or if you keep an extra wing (Sanders) to deal with the Manu question.

I go with Marks even if Sanders can be useful if we meet Kobe in the first round.

This isn't news to me. Pop already mentioned this was going to happen on the POP SHOW a while back. CIA POP strikes again.

I like this, against certain teams a
Beno or Marks may be more important. Helps the Spurs.

I thought when Pop mentioned it, they were talking about it being the same as in the regular season (15 players max/setting the 12 before each game).

Pop said they (leauge) were disscusing this.

There should be 3 extra but one is still more then zero.

Marks easily, because he's a far better player.

Because playoff rotations shrink, this won't help the Spurs because they have no major injuries.

I am wondering which team this helps the most. Suns, maybe?

I'd have to listen to it again to be sure of # of players on playoff roster/set before the game, but he sounded confident on what he was saying.
