On NBA.com, it's says tonights game will be televised in dual sky cam HD on NBATV.
Does anyone know what that means?

Apparently they are going to use a different camera angle on the wire cams in the rafters of the stadium that will look like you're ten rows up from center-court. Usually these shots are done sparringly throughout a broadcast, but you'll see a lot more of them now.

I hope they don't use it much. That experimental stuff should be done during the summer league or preseason. Leave the regular season and playoff broadcasts alone.

Especially when the silver dancers are leaning over and doing that little shimmy thing.

Ooh, I never even thought of that. Fun. They'll still use the close-up shots of the players and dancers I'm sure.

Well, there's going to be a local broadcast of the game, right? I think this is just for NBA TV.

NBA announces new dual-Skycam broadcast plans

For the first time, an NBA game will utilize two "SkyCams" during the April 11th meeting between the Seattle Supersonics and the San Antonio Spurs (lot of Ss there). Instead of using two center court cameras like most NBA games, they will use the suspended high definition skycams to give the impression of sitting about 10 rows up from the floor.
Two robotic high definition cameras above each backboard plus one at center court on the scorers table will give a unique "you are there" perspective for this game. For the audio, it will be in 5.1 surround, with the focus given to on court and arena sounds, much like the recent "silent game" in Orlando. Rick Kamla will host the game, checking in from various spots around the arena as well.
This is great, I really feel like the NBA "gets" high definition and are looking to build around it for better quality broadcasts. The only real complaint I've had so far is that the camera angles don't seem to take advantage of HD's aspect ratio and detail enough, and I hope that these changes will enhance the experience. All we need now is for ESPN, ABC and TNT to take the hint, shut up blabbering on-air personalities and give us just basketball, raw and uncut.

I just don't like them acknowledging NBA TV in the arena. It makes me feel like they had to change the in-arena experience around TV, and there's been enough of that already.

this shit is weird. Different and weird. I can't say yet if I like it or not. It's different. I'd prefer no announcers to the Sonics guys, that's for sure.

....Right. That second camera was broken for most of the first half. With only one camera operating, this forced viewers to watch the action from a "behind the basket" angle.
It was weird watching Tony and the team dribble away from us as though we were under the opposite basket.
I must admit the HD effect was "all that".

I live here in Washington State so I thought I would have the local FSNW broadcast but luckly I got the NBATV Skycam broadcast instead. That Craig Ehlo really sucks ass. I guess it was cool for one game, I would have rather had Elliott.

I saw some highlights from the low angle (NBAtv blocked out locally for the game).
Pretty nice view. You don't see the floor spacing quite as well but it's realistic.
Side note: Rick Kamla interviewing Mike Finley. Fin: "I love this team!"

I guess you like bad jokes and having others state the obvious. I wish every game didn't have announcers, especially those shown on ABC and ESPN. Those guys make me wanna kill myself. The cameras rule as does the atmosphere they create, really makes you feel like you're at the game. :elephant :elephant

The camera angles is fun for novelty, but not for the entire game. The announcers however (or lack of) simply works, reminds me of the Florida/Florida State football game this past year, the center channel was somehow "turned off" but the crowd noise was still present and in surround sound. So loud crowd, and no announcers. Add that to being in HD and that was a dream come true.
B- for this telecast for NBATV, we didn't need to listen to the boob around the arena say this was an historic event over and over.

I didn't mind no announcers but I hated the exclusive use skycams. It made it hard to watch plays develop because you were constantly reorienting yourself to the camera angle, then trying to pick up where you left off.
GIve me one view and stick to it.

the camera that fuckin broke was being prepared in the aisle right in front of me. i was like WTF? i didnt pay to have my view blocked by this bullshit.

I loved it, but I wouldn't want this for every game. A simucast maybe, as an option of a camera angle or being able to watch the game online from this. But I wouldn't want "NBA's Greatest Games" to replay this broadcast. I am still a traditionalist, I guess. The problem isn't with the format, it's with the estimated intelligence level by the networks of those watching the games.

I hated the telecast. It sucked.
The un-"Still Cam" made me nauseas as it slowly floated from front to backand side to side.
I changed the channel. Felt like I was on a carnival ride.

For those of you at the game, how was the crowd? Because on the telecast they sounded dead like we've been complaining about recently. It may have been the way they had the broadcast miked, though.
I did like being able to hear the players and refs yell and cuss, though.
