Believe is Back v4.0

Finally. I've waited all season for a reason to believe. Now I can finally look at this team and honestly see the parts to a championship. I've been slow to warm up to this team because it hasn't really given max effort the whole season. It has just been going thru the motions all year waiting for the playoffs to tip off.

Although the Spurs lost tonight against the Orlando Magic at home, Believe is Back in full force. Tim Duncan is Tim Duncan again. Against the Sonics last game, I saw glimpses of the real Tim Duncan. Tonight against the Magic, he played even better. His offensive game is coming around and he was much better on defense than he has been all season.

That is what I've been waiting for. The Spurs will sweep the final three games and head into the postseason on a high note. They'll have posted the best regular season record in franchise history and will be ready to roll in the playoffs.

Tim Duncan -- He's just getting started. He's going to have a better playoff run than he did in 2005. He's going to remind people who the best player in the world is.

Manu Ginobili -- Manu will shake off the injury bug and will be the team's killer. His pick-and-roll with TD will be a staple late in games. How do you stop that play? You don’t.

Tony Parker -- Tony has had his best season of his career and it will continue into the playoffs. He'll have his moments where his shot won't fall, but he'll do enough to cement himself as a top four point guard.

Bruce Bowen -- This will be Bowen's best playoff run. He'll play shutdown defense and will work in a much better offensive game.

The Centers -- Nazr, Rasho and Oberto will be decent. Each will have a game here and a game there where they'll play good. They'll do enough to buy time for the other players.

The Bench -- Michael Finley, Robert Horry and Brent Barry give the Spurs their most potent bench they've ever had. Finley and Barry will hit big shots. Robert Horry is big shots.

The PGs -- Nick Van Exel and Beno Udrih aren't much, but they can get the job done. Van Exel will hit some huge threes and Beno will do his job when called upon.

The first round will be a little tougher than expected. The Spurs will come out slow in game one but will play well in the fourth quarter to take a 1-0 series lead against the Kings. Game two will be easier and they will head to either Sacramento with a 2-0 lead. The Spurs will drop game three but will respond well in game four with Robert Horry hitting some dagger threes. The Spurs will bring it back to San Antonio to finish them off.

Against the Mavs, the Spurs will come out and win game one in the first battle of the second round. The Mavs, inspired by the coach of the year, will come out and steal game two with Dirk causing all types of matchup problems. The Spurs will respond by going to Dallas and winning games three and four on the road. Game five will be epic but the Spurs will come out ahead and will move on to the Western Conference Finals.

There, the Spurs will face the Los Angeles Clippers. The Spurs will go on to sweep the Clippers in four toughly contested battles.

The Finals will be a rematch of the 2005 series. The Spurs will go into Detroit and shock the world with a game one win. Detroit will come back and take the second game. But once back in San Antonio, the Spurs won't lose again and will raise their fourth championship trophy in game five. Tim Duncan will be the Finals MVP and the Spurs will head into the offseason figuring out how they'll go about getting number five.

Looking back on the Spurs last season at this time, we weren't even sure we'd make it out of the first round with Tim suffering through his second ankle sprain. That's the greatest thing about this team. They never cease to surprise me. Though they haven't played their best ball of the season, they still have 60 wins. Though Manu and Tim have been injured, we've still got guys like Tony and Finley patiently waiting for them to heal. And best of all, it's time for Robert Horry to come out from hiding! :elephant

So far, I'm impressed with the Spurs composure. We're not focusing 100%, but we never do in the first round. Normally with the Spurs championship teams, a team at 80% is good enough to win 4 games. This first round we're playing at about 70% but it seems to be doing the job well enough. Game 3 was a fluke. I still love our heart. We're gonna need 85-90% for the Mavs, focus on execution for the WCF's and need 100+ against Detroit in the Finals though...no joke. :oops

Spurs are not good in elimination games. When facing their own elimination they have usually lost. Beating Seattle in a first round playoff a few years back when facing elimination was the last time they won an elimination game.

They play better when they are either ahead in a series. Thats when they are on their game. When they are not they are very beatable. I expect the spurs to lose this elimination game.
