Out of his last 7 attempts to get a save, he has blown 4 of them and they weren't no 1 ER blown saves, they were 2, 3 ER in .1

Both Texas teams' "Closers" can't get out of their own way right now. Lidge and Cordero. Cordero just blew his 5th save this month (a record) and his 2nd in less than 24 hours.

lol Cordero has 3 wins and 3 saves........there is something wrong with that.

For the upcoming roadtrip, Otsuka will be the closer for the Rangers. I think it should have been Benoit myself, but we will see how he does.

Yeah, needless to say its been frustrating seeing what Albert Pujols' NLCS 05 blast might've done to him. However, Lidge is very talented, highly intelligent and resilient as hell. I think he'll get back on a roll, eventually. But he's been in the league for a few years now and some good hitters are starting to get more comfortable with his pitches. Still, I think he'll become the domnant force out of the pen he has been throughout his career.

lidge is leading the NL in saves while sucking. i agree he is letting far too many runners on base and giving up runs, but all that matters for a closer is getting the save. right now, he's still getting that done. he can work on the kinks as the season progresses.

For me the amount of saves you have does not necessarily reflect on how good of a closer you are. You can be a great closer and be on a team that rarely gets you in a position to earn a save therefore never leading the league. A good indicator of how effective a closer is would be by the percentage of save opportunites in which they are successful.

Melmart1
05-13-2006, 03:27 AM
Agreed, KSkonn. The new closer for the Mariners is pretty damn good. But cus the Mariners suck, he doesn't have those Mariano numbers.

Also, Lidge is officially out of the closer's position, though supposedly only 'temporarily'.

T-Pain
05-13-2006, 03:30 AM
well i still think Lidge is a good pitcher, but damn, if your gonna close the game dont throw hittable balls. Im just venting here cuz im tired of Lidge blowing it.

Horry For 3!
05-13-2006, 05:11 PM
Lidge will only be out of it for like 2 weeks at the most so he can pitch in like the 6-7-8 innings to get his stuff back then he'll be closer again. So it is probably Wheeler for a little while.

Letting Dotel go make the Stros 100 times better. Dotel is horrible, he isn't even pitching in the MLB even today. He is on some team, Yankees I think but hasn't pitched one inning this season

Horry For 3!
05-13-2006, 11:55 PM
I was jumping with joy when Dotel went to the A's, I told everyone, Dotel will suck it up or get hurt and Huston Street will take over the closing duties as a rookie....

I was 100% correct and ever since then, Bye bye Dotel

it really just came down to that one wild pitch, that's when things got out of hand. he had 3-4 solid outings before that one back as closer. he'll get back on track, at least he's not tipping his pitches anymore. i don't know what the stros will do when ausmus retires, dude blocks every slider in the dirt with ease.

Its not like ST Louis where the ownership group fronted alot of the money for the arena.

mclane makes holt look like a freewheeler with free agent money, aside from roger clemens. but clemens brought more money to the stros than anyone else. most of the current stros players came up in the farm system, it's the best in the league.

Yet he slaps Lidge around like a fucking bitch.

Unreal......

BTW, if Pujols hadn't gotten a little less under that fly ball, it would've happened again.

Another 3 run homer to win a game.

Lidge would've prob swung the noose over the dugout wall right there if that had happened.

Hes practically a squigilling glob of goo now when the Cardinals come up to bat.

Albert Pujols permanently broke his chode.
When a player makes you curl up in the fetal position on the pitching mound, you don't recover. Ever.

Pujols hit the ball, Lidge's head snapped around, and he curled into the fetal position.

He has to put on a diaper whenever he sees #5 now. He's done.

Ah, Lidge is having a good season. Not as good of a comeback story as Hamilton, but a nice comeback story all together to just be in the all star game. That ending was inevitable anyway with all of the threatening the AL did in just about every extra inning only to find a way to blow it (or have the Ump blow it as on the Kinsler out at 2nd on the steal attempt call).
