NEW YORK -- As expected, Memphis Grizzlies swingman Mike Miller on Friday was named the winner of the NBA's Sixth Man Award.

Miller earned 501 out of a possible 615 points, including 88 of 123 first-place votes, from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

New Orleans Hornets guard Speedy Claxton finished second with 205 points and Dallas Mavericks swingman Jerry Stackhouse came in third with 162 points.

During the season, Miller was second among all players who played primarily as reserves in scoring at 13.7 points per game. In 74 games -- 65 as a reserve -- Miller also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

One of the league's better perimeter shooters, Miller shot nearly 47 percent from the field and better than 40 percent from 3-point range.

On March 17 vs. Denver, Miller came off the bench to score a career-high 41 points on 15-of-24 shooting, including 6-of-6 from the arc.

The 2001 Rookie of the Year with Orlando, Miller became the first member of the Grizzlies to win the award. Players must come off the bench in at least half of their games to be eligible.

Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon won as a rookie last season but played primarily as a starter this season.
