I'd like to buy my nephew (almost 13 years old) a gift and since he's crazy about video games that would be a good idea. So what is currently the newest, most badass video game for PCs that I should bring him?
Don't know if it's the type of game he likes but The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has gotten some of the best reviews I've ever seen....

Doesn't that depend on the type of he prefers?
Sports, War simulation, Arcade type, etc.
Try Best Buy
They have a good selection on PC games

Sometimes some idiots posts porn pics in the game and stuff, you know how it is.

few things to consider and ask yourself. As someone else asked, what type of games does he enjoy? Sports (whcich sport), strategy/role playing, shooter, racing etc etc etc
Do you want a simgle player game? or multiplayer on-line game? Keep in mind many of the better/newer online games require a 15 dollar fee.
Also keep in mind what type of computer he currently has. Is his graphic card a newer one? Is it DirectX9 compatible? Many titles will play w/ older cards such as the Nvidia 5900 or ATI 9800 but we are getting to the point where a newer one is practically needed for any of the new games to play at low settings.
CPU is also going to be a big factor. Most games require at least a 2ghz yet recommend a 3ghz.
Ram? better have at least a 1G.
The system will definetly have an impact on which game to buy.
By far the best of the newest titles out there would be 'Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' .

It is a strategy/role playing game w/ terrific graphics. It is a single player game.
However it is a resource hog. To play it like it's meant to be played, expect your system rquirements to be 3Ghz cpu 1g of ram and a Nvidia 6800
Another game is 'Guild Wars: Factions'
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=646502
It's an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game). I do not believe there is a monthly fee associated with this title.
Also this does not need as high-end of a computer as the previous game mentioned.
As for shooters, I'd have to mention Quake 4.
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=645991
However, this title wasn't as good as expectations.
A better option IMO would be COD2.
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646080
While it's a little bit older than Quake 4, it's on-line community is much larger. The COD games have been quite succesful whereas Q4 flopped.
both allow you to play single player and online. (no fee for online play)
'Ghost Recon: Advance War Fighter' is a game being released on Tuesday.

From some screenshots I've seen, it looks pretty nice, but I don't really have much info on it.
Sports games are always fun. EA sports....whatever sport you want. However none of them are all that new.....
I think FIFA world cup2006 is their newest.

He has a pretty decent PC (his uncle put it together :eyebrows).
I don't really know what his prefered games are (he's not too crazy about sports sims), but I'd like to avoid bringing him something he already owns, so it would need to be good AND new.
Oblivion sounds pretty good so far....

I am just now starting up a game company here in town but we are in a R&D mode at the moment. Hope to ship Xbox 360 and PC games in about 2 years.
BTW I am still looking for people that work with 3dstudioMAX and Maya. Also maybe a programmer (C++ , scripting).

F.E.A.R.
Oblivion (I didn't care for it, but hey, everyone else likes it)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Black Edition)
I honestly don't play much outside WoW anymore ... hopefully with the new titles coming out (Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, BF 2142, Supreme Commander, Warhammer Online), I'll be able to get back into it.

$100? That better be hell of a game. But it's a good advice, the way piracy works here, if it's coming out this month, he probably has it.
Sport games are repetative, but i still play nba live 2000 from time to time.
i'm guessing you don't have time till the end of month to wait for Heroes of Might and Magic 5?
EDIT: I think BigBang has gift certificats.

seconding the "ask him"
he knows better than you do, and also the newest games might not be capable of running on his computer if it is even a couple years old.

Have him go to a Game site and try out many games to see what he digs first before you buy.
