Jack Nies is the only ref I truly despise. He holds a grudge against Duncan that is Jake O'Donnell/Clyde Drexler class.

He might as well have. He fucked the Kings every other way possible.

Actually I believe the refs in that game were modeling themselves after Reggie Evans.

Hopefully we don't get Bennett's sorry ass in Game #6 or there will definitely be a game #7.

I'm sure Stern will have Bennett ref Game #1 against Dallas so we can see another Salvatore Special Free Throw shooting contest a la 2003. :td

I do not think this Dallas team can hit 49 of 49 FTs though.

The owners should force them to fire Bavetta... or have a player walkout..

Joey Crawford usually isn't that bad, but last night he sure as hell was as bad as Nies or Bennett.

Im hoping for a Jav reffed game in game 6.

Javy, IMO, is the best out there. Fair, explains the fouls very well, and is evenhanded.

HIm, and prob Danny Crawford.

Thank God. Bavetta is back in Miami tonight so no FT shooting contest tomorrow. The NBA is probably saving his old ass for Game #3 when the Mavs are in a must win situation.

Javie did game 7 in Phoenix, so there's a decent chance he'll be in SA for Game 2.

Man I Have A Feeling That Were Going To Get Either Bennett Or That Lady Ref, She Always Calls Against Spurs

Bavetta is the worst, if only because he does it to every team in every city. Bavetta has to be THE SHOW (watch him). Personally, I can't watch him or even a game he officiates unless it is an important playoff game. I hate to admit it, but that man has driven me to tears. To put it in perspective, the Pacers are a great FT shooting team historically. I have seen Bavetta hand the Pacers regular season games at the line back in the late '80s, early '90s. Bavetta still makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out and replace them with cocktail onions.

Then Crawford, then most of the others mentioned. Cripes, they do all suck.

Violent Palmer has zero chance of working a playoff game. Since roughly half the teams are eliminated once the playoffs start, not all refs are needed, and fewer still as the playoffs progress. Guess which group she falls in...

Danny Crawford is OK he did ok in game 1 spurs mavs

Javie is the best in the business right now.

Actually, Violet did her first playoff game this season -- she called Game 2 of the Nets/Pacers series.

Javie is probably the best of the big names.

Having watched them again this season, I think Mike Callahan might actually be the best official in basketball. Nobody knows who he is, but he doesn't miss much and he seems to be unswayed by anything.

No one should know who an official is. I blame Bavetta. He started the trend. He's like the Chris Berman or "Real World" of refs. In sheer DVs (general annoyance factor is officially measured in units of Dick Vitale), Bavetta is an 11.

Actually, back in the 70s and 80s, everyone knew Earl Strom, Mendy Rudolph, and Jake O'Donnell.

Difference was, they were good.

My problem with Bavetta is that I hate it when the last minute of the game takes longer than the entire 1st quarter. (OK, but we all know it sure feels like it.) He drives me insane no matter who plays.

I feel the exact same way. IMO he calls ticky tack fouls all the time and has a reputation for inconsistancy. During the regular season he worked a lot w/ Violet Palmer and they just killed me to see the crap they'd call. I just can't get too worked over it too much. I'd be more worried about the spurs letting a call or two change a game without capitalizing on their own opportunities.

TPark, Palmer is done doing games this year.

If you really, really want to know, I can probably give you a pretty accurate list of the officials who are still working. There are no more than 29 of them.

Knowing who officials are is one thing; complaining about the calls those people make is another.

Thank god.

Bavetta is either the #1 or #2 (Joey Crawford) most experienced official in the NBA right now. He can seem to manipulate games sometimes, but he's great for ensuring drama, which keeps him employed late into the season. When Bavetta isn't trying to screw around with outcomes, he's actually pretty good.
