I think it is a sport. I'd love to discuss it, but I don't know anything about it. :depressed I'd sure read a discussion about it, though, because I'd like to learn. Hope you get some takers!

I think most people catch these down here with bow and arrow, I guess if you had a speargun you could use that.

Yes. With really big and strong spearguns.

never tried it but I guess it would be cool to see a fish face to face then shoot it. We are not talking about standing on a rock and throwing a piece of wood on the blue lagoon spear right ? we are talking about scuba diving with spearguns. I just hit the coast and go after reds and specks

Oh no, no! You are wrong (as many people thinking just that for spearfishing)!
It is about snorkeling with speargun = spearfishing, which is much more difficult (and much more interesting) than scuba diving with spearguns.

But unfortunately there are some who do it with scuba gear :flipoff
