Thanks to the sloth of one or more of my supervisors I was unable to hire my first choice for a job here in my office. This young lady was exactly the kind of person I wanted working in here-smart, articulate, speaks Spanish, flexible schedule, lived near campus and wouldn't be graduating until 2009. So I offered her the job, she accepted and I filed the paperwork with my business manager to get the ball rolling. Usually this process takes about a week to get the person cleared and on the payroll. That was three weeks ago.
In the meantime I've been on the phone to the new worker monkey every so often apologizing profusely for the amount of time it's taking to get her paperwork properly filed, while getting various excuses and BS from my superiors. My business manager says it's because she needs info on two other students they are hiring for a different office from M, who says that the hold up on her end is because of the business manager not getting taking care of some tiny detail. So the shit finally went through today and I call the aforementioned worker monkey to be to tell her the good news. She has good news of her own-two days ago she got a better offer and has decided to go work for them. So I'm back to square one because of the morons I work for. And to make matters worse there was a big gulf between my first choice and the other I interviewed. One of them was qualified but lived out in east Lordonlyknowswheresville, so her getting here at 8 am would be a crap shoot with Houston traffic and limits her availability in general. There was a guy who lived on campus, and who on paper seemed qualified but upon meeting him I wasn't very impressed and I think may have been a little high. And then there was an international student from India. Nice guy but he has a super thick accent and speaks about as loudly as a hamster farts, plus international students can only work limited hours.
So in conclusion, I work for idiots. I know this is a little petty and whiny but I needed to vent and I can't say anything to the worker monkeys because it would get in the rumor mill and get back to my supervisors as, "Jason said that he couldn't hire his first choice because y'all drink on the job and have sex with lab rats instead of doing your work."
