...a joint session of Congress on September 20, 2001.
"This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat."
"Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."
He's done exactly that.

Turned the terrorists against one another? More like united them against us, and gave them a chaotic country to breed and recruit in.

Yeah, because before the Iraq invasion they weren't against us.

Before the invasion, the Radical Shi'ites were content to kill the Sunnis, and vice versa. Now they're fighting together like fucking brothers.

Actually Dan, the simple fact that Pakistan and Saudi are linked to terrorism, but are helping us in the war on terror, proves we are turning them against each other.
But surely you realize why we can't just blindly list every single questionable country at one time...We cannot do this without the support of some countries in the middle east in nearly every campaign.
If you remember, Bush said alliances would be very fluid and dynamic, alliances will change depending on the present goal.
If we simply said..ok, we are going after every mideast country simultaneously...
That would unite them against us.
We did play Pakistan and Saudi Arabia against Afghanistan. We will soon be playing Iraq and Afghanistan against Iran. We already have the ability to play Jordan and Turkey against most of these countries.
Once Afghanistan and Iraq have fully operating democratic govts they will be played against the millitant countries.
Iran have democracies on both sides of it is going to make it much harder for the Iranian govt to contain the pro west movement within it's own country that it is trying to hide from the world.
Mushrraf is just as much a target of millitant Islam now as we are, either you are deliberately ignoring this or you are not paying much attention to what is going on in that part of the world...
What was formerly a tool for preventing Afghanistan from becoming strong has now become the enemy of Musharraf, he has every bit as much reason now to want to see the Taliban gone.
And Bin Laden has been after the Saudi Family for years...HE is an enemy of the Saudis, he wants to rule that country.
Islamic Fundamentalism is like a guard dog with rabies, what was once a tool for population control and political manipulation has now gotten out of the control of it's masters.
As for not attacking Saudi or Paki...
WE can't just go and bomb the fucking capitol of Islam and expect to make this an easier war...We would be at war with all Muslims then...Saudi has been played against terrorism, as has Pakistan, they were two of the worst...but the absolute worst is Iran and we will soon be playing Afghanistan and Iraq and more against Iran.
And you know what? It's going to improve the quality of life and human rights for the majority of the people in the middle east. Making this a safer world.
By the way, did anyone hear about the Islamic Fundamentalists that got bombed in Pakistan? Been paying attention to the terrorists attacking Iraqis?
Hear about the french journalists that got kidnapped? The terrorists are already turned against muslims, terrorists and terrorist sympathizers.

But promise them plenty of handouts and you can get their support for anything.
