Manu was subpar for him on offense, but it was probably the best overall defensive game he's had since his rookie year. He was everywhere in the second half.

Timmy probably has his own Manu Jersey laying around his house I bet...
It's funny because DRob's played beside Manu before, you'd think he'd have a professional stance, but he's sportin' the jersey loud and proud. That was so funny to see.

Tim does not like media attention etc. He just wants to be team player. I am sure he is still close friends with 50. Tim does not need a shirt etc to know how 50 feels about him.

Manu may not have had a great offensive game, but his hustle plays greatly energized the Spurs when they need it most. He got a few tough rebounds, a few calls to go as jumpballs, some steals, etc. :tu

I also think Tim had a little something to do with keeping the Spurs hungry....
Horry and Manu are our two playoff hustlers. The offense wasn't there, but they were hot on their toes today.

Bigmen always dream of being guards and guards always dream of being bigmen...Drob has been a Manu fan since Manu's rookie year.
Oh did anyone else hear what Drob said when asked about AJ? Good Point Guard...Great Teamate...note the differentiation. Last year there was an interview with Drob about TP and Manu...Drob said he wished he had them as guards when he was playing. That's as close as you will ever get to hearing Drob say his guards hurt him...but that is what he is saying...and they did.

For everybody bitching and trying to find some way to read more into this than David being a fan of the Spurs, you deserve to be relegated to watcjing NBDL games for the rest of your lives.
David's an owner, a fan and a staple of the city and the team. 29 other teams in the league would have killed for David Robinson to be on their rosters and mean to them what he meant to the Spurs and the city of San Antonio.
David can wear one of those basketball net Spurs hats for all I care. He's there, he's cheering and he knows more about basketball than I can ever hope to.

um, I still think a big part has to do with him being a former player, and that some of his former teammates still playing, and he loves SA org. His mindset at the time is probably more fan, than owner I'm sure. Spurs aren't some scrub team in build mode for him to micromanage in the PO, these are the champs! You watch and you root! Your brother was obviously entitled to an autograph -- any celebrity should expect, when he goes out to do everyday things, that he'll be repeatedly approached and asked for autographs; and shame on David for not just rolling over and giving an autograph to everyone who ever asks.
I suspect that part of the reason that David remains in San Antonio is that people DON'T roll up on him and bother him with crap like that. I've heard many Spurs (current and former) say that they stay in San Antonio because people here respect their privacy.
FWIW, Bill Russell never signs autographs for anyone. He's said before that if people want to talk with him, he's available for that; but if all they want is an autograph that doesn't mean anything, they aren't getting it. You might think it makes him a jerk or an ass, but I think that's a perfectly acceptable approach.
Autographs are basically garbage. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be much happier to tell people that I had a conversation with someone like David Robinson than to show off some piece of paper with a name scribbled on it.

Alot of people don't even approach famous people because they are shy or scared so it is not like they are bugged 24/7.

Don't misunderstand me, here. I completely agree with you. My point is that autograph seekers don't give a shit about the person they are hassling, as is apparent by their coming onto a fan board and saying "fuck" that person because they didn't give up the autograph on demand. They might as well just go up and ask the person for money.

I agree with the point about connecting on a human level and doing away with the Celebrity pedestal, if anything the parent should tell the kid to respect their space, which I think most fans do...but not all autograph seekers are looking for a buck, they just want a memento of their favorite players. I don't think we need to cheapen autograph seeking of kids and ardent fans who are willing to wait in line before games. It's still a gesture of appreciation. Besides, how many 6 year old fans from SA gonna be able to hold a conversation with Tim Duncan, Manu , or Parker?
The guy saying "Fuck David Robinson" should know there's a time and a place for that stuff. Which was weird because he admitted he understood why...so who's guilty of harping entitlement? David trying to enjoy the game of his son like a regular schmoe or a guy bitter cuz a celebrity refused to give his an autograph to his kid brother on his off time.

Speaking of Shaq's book... I remember him saying in his book that when he was younger he would get tickets to Spurs games and him and his friends would sit all the way up in the nose bleed section... this was obviously impossible due to the fact that Shaq's rookie year was the year before the Alamodome even opened.

Not on the offensive end. On the defensive end, however...he contested what would've been the game-winning shot for the Mavs.

Like I knew that. He's old enough to know better than to go pester someone for a fucking autograph, and you are a fucking dumbass for not understanding that.
sorry but 12 year olds automatically have the right to ask anyone famous for an autograph
drob should've signed it for him, but that doesnt warrant him to hold long-term hatred for the guy.

That jersey looks like the one I have. It is black and white, no silver at at. It is made by Reebok and I believe is from the same line as those all black jerseys. These are black and white, regardless of team colors. I got mine at Academy.
The reebok jerseys typically have the reebok logo under Jerry West on the left shoulder. My Gino ili jersey is a reebok, which is probably why the B peeled off the back.

I'd be much happier to tell people that I had a conversation with someone like David Robinson than to show off some piece of paper with a name scribbled on it.
I had the chance to meet David 4 times and actually talk to him.
It didn't even come up in my mind to ask for an autograph.
Instead he asked about my trip and how I liked San Antonio and I asked him about the Carver Academy and the playoffs and we got to know each other a little better.
I do have 50 autographs of the man in my collection, byt none were asked by me. Most I get from eBay and some from friends who got it directly from David for me.
And about the LakerHater in here.....nevermind.

That's one of the classiest things I have seen in a long time. But, then, they don't come much classier than David Robinson.
I actually thought for a second that Dave had decided to don his old jersey for today's game. It was odd to realize that he wasn't wearing 50. But it was a perfect David Robinson moment.
Me, too. All I could see was the "0" on the number because the microphone and reporter were in the way. It was heartwarming to see the "2" when the guy moved aside. I LOVE David Robinson.
Ok..If Drob had the Coyote and Brent Barry as his guards...he'd have probably won a title. :fro

I think the posters had a vaild point. WIth all davids money you would think he wouldn't be buying conterfit quality stuff.
He didn't. He bought a percentage of the San Antonio Spurs. Nothing more genuine or bonafide than that. Who the hell cares where he got the Manu jersey? I would be really surprised if it were not given to him (or possibly his sons) by the guy who wears the number.
And that's the problem I have with the modern autograph mentality.
That's not always the purpose for asking someone for an autograph. I met Merlin Olsen on the cog railroad train at Pike's Peak once when I was on a trip to Colorado. My sister is not just a sports enhusiast, she's a fanatic in the truest sense of the word. Her memorabilia collection is incredible, but you know what? She never thinks of how much something is worth, only how much it means to her. I got Merlin Olsen's autograph for her (he was happy to sign it) and she was thrilled. She salted that thing away in her sports room that our family calls her "damn museum". Someday, someone may put that thing on eBay because it doesn't mean the same thing to them that it means to her, but she would never do it.

Speaking of Shaq's book... I remember him saying in his book that when he was younger he would get tickets to Spurs games and him and his friends would sit all the way up in the nose bleed section... this was obviously impossible due to the fact that Shaq's rookie year was the year before the Alamodome even opened.
He was talking about the Convention Center Arena, not the Alamodome. I used to go to Spurs games and sit in the nosebleed seats, too. But, if I ever saw Shaq there, I didn't know it was him.

I miss my DRob too. You know, it looks to me like the man can still play in this league. He looks just as in good shape as ever, and is still probably in better shape than 80% of the NBA players still. His back should be completely healed by now. I say, he needs to come back as our 12th man next year and he can be used about 10 mins a game, and be used in the playoffs to help shut down opponents on D and rebound.

Nah. Hopefully, you're just kidding? David is happier right now than I have ever seen him (including winning two championships). He would never make a fool of himself like MJ did.

That's how I've always been, too. I've never asked anyone for an autograph. I figure if they don't ask for mine, why should I ask for theirs?
I had a friend who used to wait tables at a Bennigan's in San Antonio that a lot of the Spurs used to frequent in the early '90's, and he managed to get the entire team's autographs on a basketball except for David's. He decided to take the ball to the Spurs offices and try to get David to sign it and was told by someone there that there would be a $50 charge for David's signature. My buddy decided not to pay the fee. I don't know if he would have been able to get the signature if he'd ever run into David, but I know he was pretty disappointed about not being able to get it at the time. But I agree that it's completely within his right to not sign something if he doesn't want to.

True dat. He's always been accomodating and congenial to the media. He's seemingly made a nice transition from one of the greatest players of all-time to Spurs superfan.
Wouldn't it be great if he registered here and became a member of this forum - anonymously of course.

In all fairness though.... David more than likely still has more game than Nazr or Rasho... his conditioning is also probably there... but still not 'game shape'...
Nevertheless, David's basketball IQ is still better than Nazr's and Rasho's.... combined.

but the outline is different, it has silver outline and the one DRob is wearing looks half swingman half replica because the NBA logo and sizing looks swingman/authentic but the lettering and numbering looks like a replica.
If you notice, there is no "reebok" or "nike" logo by the NBA logo - and it's David Robinson, for ****'s sake. Thus, it is a true authentic jersey. He probably just picked up the phone and asked for one. Like they would say no. :rolleyes
