View Full Version : Will Parker play tonight (much)?

Sorry if this has already been posted/discussed. I read a post on another board where someone quoted an editorial saying Parker's status is questionable tonight. I didn't even realize he had gotten kneed in the thigh in G1.

Wire Reports
Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Already suffering a right thigh bruise and a strained right hip that he got during the Kings series, Tony Parker suffered yet another injury during Game 1 against Dallas.

The Spurs reported that Parker is ailing from a left quadriceps contusion and they decided that it would be best if he rested on Monday. He did not join his teammates on the practice floor and whether he will play in Game 2 is a question mark.

On Sunday, Nick Van Exel again was Tony Parker's backup, rather than Beno Udrih. Van Exel made his first basket since the second quarter of Game 1 of the first round when he nailed a 12-footer in the third quarter.

The Mavericks are not reacting to the news and are, actually, not saying much about any adjustments or game plan changes that may be in effect for Game 2.

"We got a lot of things we need to correct," Johnson said. "The only thing that was shown was that last play. But we made a ton of mistakes throughout the game."

Meanwhile, the Spurs can only hope that Parker is feeling less stiff that he was since he got kicked.

"It's like he and Manu have targets in their thighs for people to kick them," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich complained. "They've had a lot of those this season, and we've caught another one."

Yeah, Tony looked like he was gonna throw up for a minute after he got kneed. You could tell how much it hurt by looking at his face. He's a trooper, though.

He's been questionable the last coupla games. Would tend to think if he could play on 36 hours' rest Sunday that 48+ will let him play at least some tonight.

Seems like any time Tony is "questionable" or "a game time decision" he puts up big numbers....

So this is good news.....

Tony goes for 40 tonight.

Of course he will play. This is a championship run. All our stars will play unless they have limbs missing.

Tony will play but less minutes... nobody can guard him. If he is too much injured then give some credit to NVX and pray a lot... but please Pop... Donīt give the PG to Manu or Brent!!! they are having "butter" hands right now....

He will play normal minutes and get his 20+ pts. If he is listed as "questionable", it is only to mess with Dallas minds.

Poor Mavericks.

Gee, I bet they fall for it, too.

"nobody can guard him"

but he ran into a lot of flak in the paint and got 2 or 3 layups blocked.
Diop and Dampier aren't Brad turnstyle Miller.

Mavs are playing the paint prety tough, a lot of slapping at the ball.

This is just used as a distraction strategy of the spurs. Parker is 100% and it will piss off the mavs.

Seems like Parker is catching a lot of knees in the thigh lately. Wonder if that's part of teams' defensive strategy. Certainly wouldn't put it past Dampier.

btw mavsfan1000 even with Parker hobbled your boy Devin can't stay in front of him.

I think the lineup of

PG Barry
SG Ginobili
SF Bowen
PF Duncan
C Horry

Would kick ass. Duncan in the middle and 3pt shooters all around. If we need to rest Tony during the game, that lineup would be money in the bank.

Harris pretty much shut down Parker when he was in the game in game 1. Terry though is a different story. Harris should be starting in this series so he can guard Parker.

He'll play, no doubt. "Questionable" in the NBA is very different from the questionable of the NFL. It could just be smoke from the Spurs camp, who knows? I would be very surprised if he didn't have at least 30 minutes tonight.

Tony is going to play with anything short of losing a limb. If the backups can't get any time up 20 in the 4th against the Kings, they might as well order food from the bench.
