My sisters bough me some kitchware, including these fancy ceramic salt and pepper shakers.

Each shaker is one solid piece with little holes at the top. Underneath there is one larger hole with a plastic plug in it.

To fill them, you are supposed to turn them over, take the plug out, and fill them through the large hole. WTF?

:lol
you turn them over and cover the "little holes" with your hand while you fill it up.

You don't think I just spent 10 minutes trying to do that?

Half of what I put in the shaker ended up back in my hand.

I finally just held them sideways and only filled them about 1/3 each. :pctoss

just cover the holes w/ some scotch tape or something, then you can flip it over w/ losing anything.

I think next time I will put some Saran Wrap over the little holes.

Are you absolutely sure you can't open it from the top as well? That's very weird...

Neither did you. :angel You obviously didn't need them to figure out how to turn me on and use me.

I love the ones that you fill from the bottom, due solely to the fact that I love taking the plug out, and, while using a bit of dexterity and quick hands, placing them back on the table without dumping all the contents.

Shit, I can do it without dumping all the contents.

Anway, I call BS on your being able to do that with these:

That's close to what they look like, except with a solid color.

I just put a finger over the hole and then quickly slide it out, but you could actually do it much easier with a sheet of paper.

Funny...the first time I remember ever actually having to fill one myself, I ended up with salt all over the counter. :oops :lol

Pepper was no big deal, because I have a one-handed pepper mill that loads from the top. :spin

We had some like this a long time ago.

Get a rubber band and some wax paper, napkin, or something similar. Cover the top and seal it with the rubber band. Now you can invert without much loss of the contents...but you are correct ShoogarBear, totally lame and impractical refill design.

Just get a tiny funnel and fill them up from the top.

OR

You could just stick them in the pantry, and when your sisters come for a visit, dust them off and set them where they can easily be seen. Then return them to the pantry when they're gone. That's what I would do.

You must be related to the lady I saw at a little Mexican restaurant filling up her purse with Sweet & Low, sugar, salt, pepper, plastic forks & knives...anything not nailed down, basically.

I probably should have said something, but I was laughing too hard.... :oops :lol

Taco Cabana always tries to skimp with me on salt and pepper in the drive-thru, so I respond by taking a ton when I go inside. I don't waste them, though, I keep them in my truck for future use.
