I've been rooting against the Pistons all year just cause I didn't want to have to play them in the finals. IF the Spurs get knocked out I'll try my best to cheer for them.

I lived there for 17 years and had season tickets for 3. I'm allowed to root for them.

Phoenix or Detroit, can't decide. Phoenix, because of the way they dug themselves out of the Lakers series hole, and because of their chemistry and flair. Detroit, because they play such amazing defense. Actually, if the Spurs aren't in the finals, this is the match-up I'd like to see.

But mostly I'll be watching the World Cup.

Moi aussi!!!!! I'll be pulling for the Pistons, but if the Clips win, I will be happy for those loyal fans like Billy Crystal. But I will always root for my Spurs the most.

I'm not thinking about the If/When scenario.

I will say that I'm happy for the Clippers... they deserve to be playing this post season. The Clip's fans have stuck by them and have long awaited this opportunity. Sammy has changed the dynamics of this team and I hope they take Round 2.

Actually, I'll be rooting for the Pistons because I just love that team and the way they play. It might not happen for them, but I think, for the most part, they play with a sort of quiet dignity and hardened focus that I find hard to dislike.

If the Spurs were to not make it, I'd be rooting for the worst ratings ever for the NBA Finals.

What are the odds of that happening?

Nero
05-16-2006, 03:36 PM
I'll hope for a Mavs/Clipps match. I'd like to see if the Mavs decide to leave Brand/Kaman in at the same time or play small ball Spurs style.
Either the Mavs or Clippers winning would be fine with me.

That's the thing. The ratings, even if Detroit makes it to the finals again, won't be as bad as if San Antonio made it too. All the remaining teams are in larger markets than us. So even if Detroit, which isn't a huge market, makes it in, the NBA will be able to compensate by having them go against an LA team, or Phoenix or Dallas. And Stern will feel vindicated.

I guess the only way there are worse ratings is if the Pistons completely demolish Phoenix or LA (because the Mavs ain't making it past either of those guys). But what you wanna bet the refs will turn it into a seven-game series?

Mavs are Spurs 2 and
Cleveland is Spurs 3.

They are replicas of the original, Popovich's creatures.

I should say Suns for Mike D'antoni, who's been down here for decades.

However, the feeling of a good old basketball player says D.
For the only -other- team that plays it.

Same, when the Spurs season ends is when I stop watching basketball for the year. In this case, I have international ball to watch :)

Pistons... I know a lot of Detroit fans from Michigan, and they're all pretty intelligent and were fans way before they won a title. I only know one Mavericks fan from Dallas who isn't a bandwagoner who used to be a Laker fan (for a lot of Mavs 'fans' I know from Dallas, that was until the end of game 6 last round), and I know a lot of Mavs fans.

Mav fan = Laker fan

Same bullshit.... fuck Dallas.

Yeah I agree. That was an ignorant statement. Sorry, you can't heap all mavs fans in one collective group just as you can't with any other team. There are tons of fans, including myself, that were fans back in the day of the "hustle points". Back when thats all we had to cheer for. Sure there are tons of bandwagoners but also tons who have been around a looong time. Just because they don't post on a message board doesn't mean they don't exist.

Every NBA team -- even the Hawks -- has a core of real fans. Real fans deserve respect.

But it sure seems like there's a lot of belligerent bandwagoners that have tuned in because the Stars got sent home early and it's a couple of months to Cowboys training camp.

I'm talking about Mavs and Pistons fans I personally know in LA.
