I'm pretty certain that Tim Duncan's place in basketball history is cemented and his Hall of Fame plaque has already been prepared. Nothing will change it.

Most people don't think it's automatic.

You act like it's automatic. Get real.It is. Just like it has been every year that we've beat your shitty team.

Remember in 2003 when the Mavericks held onto a lead in game six? Yeah, neither do I.

Shit! Remember that time the Mavs beat the Spurs in a playoff series?

Yeah, NEITHER DO I.

You gotta get to four bitch, and your team isn't going to.

I don't think it'll change much. In my mind he's already on the all-time, all NBA team with:

PG - Magic
SG - Jordan
SF - Bird
PF - Duncan
C - <insert dominant center>

It doesn't change unless they win the title.

I wouldn't go that far... but top PF of all time... most likely.

I haven't seen that -- I've seen plenty of platitudes about the way that Timmy played last night and the way that he's played in this series.

Timmy's place among the elite of the elite is well-settled.

tim.fuckin.duncan

the mvp has returned for this series and has taken this team on his shoulders. His indomitable will he has imposed upon the mavericks, causing foul trouble on the front line and cutting into the hearts of the imposters. Bring on game 6.

when Pop was interviewed they mentioned Duncan's play in the last question, like it was expected that he'd go nuts like that

I thought it was only me, but heard about that several times already today

I love Timmy, and I'm sorry, but I think he has to win 6 rings and tie Jordan and Kareem before there's a legit case for top 3.

Jordan was JORDAN well before his fourth title. And where do you place Horry on the list then? Kerr? Are they among the Elite? I'm not trying to argue, but there are too many factors to say that number of rings is indicates a players standing on the all time list, although I can not that I argue with the first two on your list.

After the Spurs lose this series, Duncan will still be regarded as one of the best ever.

Number of titles certainly isn't the only factor -- Horry and Kerr aren't there for the same reason that all the players on the 60's Celtics teams aren't. But when you're differentiating between all-timers, being the best player on a number of title teams is a pretty compelling factor.

You've also got Bill Russell, with 11 freakin' titles, and Magic Johnson, with 5. You've got Shaq, Olajuwon, Chamberlain, Bird, Oscar Robertson, Dr. J. There are a ton of great players in the history of the league.

Timmy didn't change the league the way that Wilt, or Magic, or Jordan did. To crack the Top 5, much less the Top 3, he needs things that really set him apart from all the other great players. An obscene number of titles would be one way to do that, and it seems more likely than, say, breaking Kareem's scoring record.
