Mavs played 5 on 4 for a long time

I don't get Pop's fascination with Nick Van Excel.

We were lucky to win last night with Nick playing so many minutes. It's like we were playing with 4 guys out there.

NVE is like 6 for 29 shooting in the playoffs. He hardly ever passes the ball. He chunks up ill-advised shots. He has NO defensive ability.

Is there something I'm missing?

The +/- while NVE was in during his SHORT RUN was -8, by far the worst of any spurs player. The 4 assists don't make up for the crap shooting and defense he showed (until finally at the end when he made some decent play).
