View Full Version : Game 6 X Factor

Game 6 is going to be damn tough. The Spurs need someone to step up and provide a lift. Tim, Tony and Manu have come thru great over the last few games. Bowen and Finley have been consistent. Now what the Spurs need is someone else.

There has to be an X Factor. It'd be tough for the Spurs to win without a historical performance. In '03 it was Steve Kerr stepping up and putting the Mavs down in Game 6. In '06, who can fill that role?

X-Factors in the past have been born out of the need to score. In this series, I don't see that being a means for someone making a difference. I think the X-Factor will be someone who can come in and shake things up defensively and on the glass.

Perhaps Nazr or Rasho will have his coming out party in a time of need.

Barry has scored 8, 2, 5 and 5 in the non-blowout games. He's not part of the Big 5 at this point.

Michael Finley for the win!

I'm hoping Horry will step up, but I saw a picture of his game on the side of a milk carton. It was on there with Rasho, Nazr and NVE's game. It's like Space Jam. THE ALIENS STOLE THEIR GAME.

If he plays great and the Big 3 do their thing, Spurs win.

Well, I think only Brent will have the chance to be the X-factor with the little minutes Horry sees at the moment. But it would be sooo good to see Horry hit some 3s and I am sure he is capable of doing so... but I am worried A LOT more about the DEFENSE! I have never seen a game of the Spurs where the opposing guards got to the basket THAT easy. Focus on defense and the Spurs won't need heroics. They got some stops in the 3rd and went up by 10. I still think the Spurs should put a big on Dirk, so he can't shoot over them and has to drive. But I guess Pop will stick with his stradegy, maybe it is too late to give Rasho some time...

It'll be Manu....book it.

And yes I know he's been playing pretty well as it is...but it'll be Manu.

RE: Barry...I never thought I'd say this...but this motherfucker just needs to stand there and shoot threes and rebound(he's a good rebounder)...I don't want to see the ball in his hands late in the game after the way he got the yips in Dallas the last time.

RE: Horry...Horry hasn't been getting enough minutes to enter the clutch zone...usually those games where he comes up with the huge clutch performances are games where he gets a lot of minutes.

Edit: I do want to see Horry on Dirk defensively in late situations...he can do this, he's is excellent at stealing the ball and blocking shots in these situations. It allows us to put Bruce on Terry or Howard where he can be more effective.

2 years ago, I would have been all over Van Exel in this spot. I found myself thinking back 11 years to a Game 5 in San Antonio in the Second Round, when Nick "the Quick" single-handedly carried his Lakers into a Game 6 with a monsterous shots against the Spurs, sinking a dagger to send the game to OT and another to win it in OT.

I think it's pretty clear now: that Nick has long since left the building.

When I voted for Horry, I wasn't even just talking about the offense that he would bring. I was re-watching Game 1, Horry was great despite getting into early foul trouble, he was hustling, making smart veteran plays, and grabbing offensive rebounds, taking the charge, etc. We need more of that in Game 6. We got some of that from Manu, but we need Horry to step up and play smart basketball.

The thing is...Nick was never a high PCT shooter, he was very much cut from the AI cloth of needing about 20 shots to get hot...he doesn't get those anymore. And with the way he's been picking up stupid fouls and T's....Yeah, he has long since left the building.

I would love the story book version where "Fin-dog" steps up and sinks his old team.

I'm calling it now -- Fin-dawg WILL hit a big 3 down the stretch (within 2 min) to keep the Spurs in the lead and on to victory!!!

(I would, however, settle for more than a 1 pt win in game 6 -- my nerves are shot!!!!)

Bruce did not take one shot last night.. I think it's about time for him to come up with 4 or 5 big threes out of the corner....

Dallas may slack off of him, since it seems the Spurs aren't interested in him shooting.. Maybe use that man to help double team, and leave Bruce wide open..

I'd take a one point win. I'd take a 1/10th of a point win if the NBA allowed it.

If last night's thunderous dunk is any indication of his current state of mind, the Game 6 "X" factor who is not TD, TP or MG will be Finley.

No doubt. It's still another reason to think that it won't be NVE. It would be great to see him have the confidence to rise up and drain a 3 or even a couple, but I'm not holding my breath until that happens.

I'd be quite content if the Spurs are in position to have an x-factor. I don't care who it is -- there are plenty of possibilities and any number of factors could dictate who that x-factor might be.

A guess: Horry.

We have not seen a big shot yet from big shot Bob, I think Horry will be an x-factor.
I also see Finley wanting to stick it to that homo Cuban.

X-factor HAS to be someone from the so-called deep bench the SPurs have.

I'd say Horry, except he appears to have disappeared offensively this series, and I don't know why. But games like this are his thing.

Barry - maybe. NVE - I don't trust his decisionmaking, but if he's got a hot hand then I say play him. Maybe Bowen, who after not even attempting a shot last night, should be due for a 15 point game.

Mike Finley! He hit some big shots in the last 2 games. If he brings it like he did during that dunk he could easily get 20pts.

I think Manu will have a huge Game 6, but beyond our big offensive* three, I'm going to say that Finley will be the X Factor.

* Most refer to Tim, Tony and Manu as our "big three", but without Bowen on defense, we would be nowhere. Therefore, I must refer to them as the "big offensive three".

It is like Steve Kerr said last night, Finley felt his best opprotunity at a ring was with the Spurs. I heard that Dallas was actually booing him the other night, not too cool. He will show Dallas how he appreciates the booing.

Shank
05-18-2006, 08:53 PM
Get used to the booing. He'll be public enemy #1 in Dallas Friday night.

As for the X-factors. No way anyone can say Fat Nick can do anything for SA. Barry would be my bet. For Dallas, the team will need good production out of Marquis Daniels.

Michael and Brent, both shooting high FG%, hustling and defending, "little things", to top up what Tim, Tony, and Manu will bring.

Robert has been so absent these playoffs, defense, hustle, shooting, that I expect nothing from him vs Mavs.

RuffnReadyOzStyle

Duncan will score 82 by himself and Kobe's head will explode. :lol

Nah, it's Horry time. Rob is yet to do anything meaningful these playoffs, but Game 6 is where he earns his cheque for this year with a dagger and some massive hustle plays.

I have 3: Finley will go for 20 (up from 10 or 12)
or
Horry will go for 10 (a couple of 3's) and Barry will go for 10 (a couple of 3's).

For the Mavs, Josh Howard can raise his scoring. Stackhouse can't play any better than he has already. Dirk is already meeting his numbers. Marquis Daniels and Devin Harris must have big games for the Mavs to win. If they don't both have big games (I am assuming Josh will ), Mavs probably lose.

Manu will have to carry more of the scoring load. Tony is too slowed down by his injuries. Also, in the 4th quarter Tony's play, especially his scoring goes down. I guess that it is his conditioning. However, Manu plays awesome 4th quarters. If Manu hits his 3's and we get 20 points out of my x players, Spurs will win. 3's will help space the floor and make us extremely efficient on offense.

If the Spurs win the X factor's will be Horry and Rasho.
