For that last play if he was in there Dirk probably would never have touched that rebound. When they broke the huddle i am sitting there screaming why is he not in the game.

But did that make sense to you if Dirk put that back in all anyone would be saying is why was Duncan on the bench?

I've been wondering the same thing. Dirk almost tipped that ball in because the only Spurs big man on the court (Horry) was guarding the inbounds play. If Avery had set a play for Dirk inside the Spurs would have been cooked. Maybe they underestimated how long 2.4 seconds really is, it's a lifetime in the NBA. The Spurs coaching staff caught a lucky break.

All I know is Tim did not appear to be too pleased about it.

It was a really curious decision. I could see putting Horry into the game to defend the inbounds pass AND leaving Duncan on the floor to defend Dirk or anyone else in the paint. If ever there was a point in this series that called for tall-ball, that was it. The Spurs didn't break the huddle that way -- Pop reacted to what was on the floor and made that decision.

I thought he was very fortunate to get away with it.

To be honest, I was so tense, I did not even realize he was not in the game until now.

Good question, and good point(s).

Especially since with 2.4 seconds left, can't get called for a defensive 3 violation...

I was trying to figure out why Duncan wasn't in there too. No clue.
