Lake Highlands High TV could have its most captive audience ever Friday as the school airs surveillance video of the man who brought marijuana-laced muffins to campus this week.

Authorities are hoping students will recognize the man on the tape, which will be aired on closed-circuit TV, broadcast in every classroom.

This surveillance photo shows the person who delivered the tainted muffins to the school on Tuesday. Nineteen teachers and staff members became ill after eating the muffins, which the man left in the staff lounge Tuesday.

Officials initially reported that 18 people had been affected, but that number was updated Thursday to 19.

Also Thursday, the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department reported that tests confirmed the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main psychoactive substance in marijuana.

"According to physician reports and patient interviews, patient symptoms are consistent with acute marijuana toxicity," said Dr. John Carlo, the health department's medical director. "Additionally, several of these patients have tested positive on urine drug screens for cannabinoids."

Health department spokeswoman Jacqueline Bell said testing by the department and the federal Food and Drug Administration will continue.

Brad Hawkins reports
Earlier tests ruled out foodborne pathogens such as salmonella, she said, but the incident should be a wake-up call for workplaces to be careful about foods brought in for potlucks and other activities.

"It's always good to err on the side of safety," she said. "This could have been a much more serious incident."

The video released by the FBI shows a white male, approximately 18 to 20 years old, with dark hair, sideburns and possibly a goatee, wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants. He is shown entering the school through the west main entrance carrying a white grocery bag. He asks an adult near the entrance for directions to the lounge.

About a minute later, he leaves the school the same way, apparently while making a call on a cellphone.

Investigators would not confirm that the man said he was at the school as part of an Eagle Scout project, as a Richardson school district source had said.

John McSwain, the supervising special agent with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, said that while the video is not very clear, it shows distinct features.

The bureau's computer analysis team is trying to enhance the images to clarify the suspect's appearance and an insignia on his shirt, he said.

If the man suspected in the case is arrested, he could face federal product-tampering charges as well as local and state charges, FBI spokeswoman Lori Bailey said. Tampering charges could carry a 10-year sentence.

Agent McSwain said the terrorism task force is involved in the case because it involves several investigating agencies.

Investigators have developed leads in the case but have nothing solid so far, Agent McSwain said. Anyone with information about the man's identity can call 972-559-5000.

All but one of the sickened employees had returned to work by Thursday, school district spokeswoman Jeanne Guerra said.

Longtime switchboard operator Rita Greenfield, 86, the only staff member to have been hospitalized overnight, was released Wednesday and planned to return to work today or Monday, Ms. Guerra said.

"Miss Rita's home and doing well, but she's still a little shaky," she said.
