Hmmm I would say DRob then Elliot secound. The Spurs sure could use Elliot's scoring, shooting, and defense. Having David next to Duncan again with Rasho as a backup would be awsome. Maybe then we could trade for a SF of decent quality?

Ah, yes, by cricky . . . I remember Rasho well . . . nobody could execute the fadeaway layup like Rasho.

I remember when the doubters like Marcus Bryant made fun of him . . . he showed them . . . when he went out and got 40 and 20 against Shaq in Game 7 of the 2005 Finals . . . that was the first of his three straight Finals MVPs . . . had a purty good feller playing forward with him, too . . . can't recall the name right off hand . . .

I am surprised nobody said Speedy Claxton. You would have thought after all the belly aching that went on around this time last year at least 10 people would have mentioned his name.

What about Speedy's deadly 3-point shooting? We could use that. Or Bateer's ball handling? Or Jack Haley's leadership?

Laugh all you want Kori Ellis.

Without Speedy in the lineup the Spurs were unable to keep the pressure on the Lakers after Parker went in the tank.

As predicted......... by..................

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 09:44 PM
Sequ, I've never said Speedy didn't bail out Tony in a game or two. But I did said that he never hit a 3-pointer as a Spur. And despite that fact, many here bitched all last season that we missed his 3-point shooting.

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 09:47 PM
I don't recall that specifically. I do believe that we missed his poise, intensity and ability to get things done in crunch time.

We should all agree that the Spurs world would have been better in 04 with Speedy as the back up.

But for some reason, Pop has the inability to recognize salary increases to players that actually contribute that are not named Duncan or Ginobili.

Dude thought David Robinson was worth the minimum. Hindsight.

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 09:54 PM
Umm ... Speedy left San Antonio because he wanted a place where he could start.

So you are saying that the Spurs should have kept Speedy and started him? Because that's the only way he was willing to stay.

You need to realize that you can't force players to stay and that's not on Pop. If a guy wants to better his career and find a place where he can start, more power to him. You can't force him to sign when all he wants is to start.

LandShark

Umm ... Speedy left San Antonio because he wanted a place where he could start.
Well that sure worked out well. :rollin

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 10:05 PM
Pop could have given him a chance to start. As far as most were concerned Kerr and Claxton were better than Parker in the Nets series anyway. Isn't that sad?

Of course he wanted to start, he still does, but people can't have everything. He is learning that but still California > San Antonio. That's what the ballas will tell you.

You are correct. He is gone, Pop can't force him to stay, understood. I am not going to dwell on it. But I don't recall the 3 point shooting arguments. I think the argument was basically how stupid can you get. We just won the championship and you are losing damn near the whole team.... Robinson, Kerr, Claxton, Jackson.... Geeze.... WTF? Players win, not coaches.

I will dwell on this. Pop doesn't know shit about point guards and he got lucky with Parker and Claxton. I believe his buddy Larry Brown traded Claxton to San Antonio. His buddy had to open his eyes and he still screwed it up. Now we move onto the great BENO! Yippee.... What a backup!

I am not hip or blind to the stupid moves, I call it as I see it. Spurs lost in the second round, why? Point guard and Center.

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 10:07 PM
Spurs lost in the second round, why? Point guard and Center.

No, they lost because they couldn't shoot from the outside - that's on the swingmen. And also because the coaches made no adjustments after game 3.

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 10:11 PM
And BTW Sequ, you do realize that the Spurs have Brent Barry -- one of the best outside shooters in the game -- to play backup to Tony this season. They aren't relying on Beno. If he's not ready, Barry will see the significant amount of minutes behind Tony. Barry>>>>Claxton

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 10:18 PM
Shooting from the outside...........????? Interesting.............

2003 playoffs: Kerr, Jackson, and Claxton=Crunch time performers

They lost because Pop lost his guns and replaced them with crap. The coaches never have made adjustments Kori. NEVER! If it wasn't for Kerr and Jackson, the Spurs might have lost to Dallas in 2003. The Jacking up a 3 play is not an adjustment.

Pop knows 1 play. Thats it. If it doesn't work, then he better have some damn players that can take matters into their own hands. ie: Kerr, Jax, Claxton, etc. etc...

Not Heal, Carter, Rasho, Malik, Garcia, BENO, and HEDO Turkoglue of all people.

I like the addition of Barry but its a llllllllllllong season.... I still will hold my ground to this day, the Spurs would have been better off right now if they paid Jackson and Claxton what they were worth than what they are right now.

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 10:20 PM
If they would have paid Jackson and Claxton what they are making right now, they wouldn't have had money to pay Manu.

So I guess that's your opinon that the team would have been better with Jack and Clax without Manu than it is with Barry with Manu.

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 10:23 PM
When the Spurs had those fellas, they were hoisting up the trophy. So, yeah, they would have been better.

Popular players don't equal championships. A Duncan team surrounded by hard ass, crunch time, gettin it done fellas is much more important.

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 10:24 PM
Umm ... Manu was on that Championship team too. If the Spurs went by your plan, they wouldn't have Manu.

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 10:25 PM
Barry and Manu are going to be very exciting to watch or is Pop going to start Barry because Manu will get to tired.... Who knows, only CIA Pop knows... BTW, why did Hedo start last year? Isn't it the same scenario? or does money change the complexion?

Kori Ellis
10-13-2004, 10:28 PM
Hedo started last year because he wasn't doing crap off the bench and they were trying to get production out of him. Hedo was a bust. And that's on RC, not Pop.

Barry has played off the bench and can perform either way.

Nikos
10-13-2004, 10:30 PM
Does it even matter if Manu is the starter at this point? He is going to finish games and still play 30mpg right?

SequSpur
10-13-2004, 10:36 PM
Pop is the top guy. RC is a puppet. Pop is at fault.

Hedo was a bust, so were the rest of the players that Pop signed to replace the Championship team. Pop screwed up that team so bad that he was ashamed to announce that the Spurs were the 2003 champions before each home game. The world forgot.

Pop has done a few things recently, resigned his players, picked up Barry. However, most of the scenery hasn't changed. The world around the Spurs is what has changed, The Lakers imploded, Dallas lost key components, Sacramento is just washed up now that Webber sucks, Minnesota will implode and the Spurs should have a wide open road.

We'll see how Pop uses his tools to get wins. Regular season wins are important and I believe this year they will be very important. Detroit vs. San Antonio. I hope we have HCA.

I am not going to dwell on it.

No of course you wont, youve only bitched about it since July 4th of 2003.

Useruser666
10-14-2004, 08:33 AM
SequSpur, you're saying that Pop should have given Speedy a chance to start over Parker? That is plain wrong. We lost Speedy to a starting job and SJax to more money. Kerr retired so I think it's a mute point. You act liked the Spurs threw a championship team in the garbage. It wasn't really feasable to keep those guys here. Now we have a new group of role players and Barry who at the very least has a handful of more vertibrae than Hedo. We just corrected the one weak link from last year. I think that's something positive.
