sorry if this has been posted i did a search but nothing came up:

ES: What are some teams you would be interested in maybe going to?

Penny: Well home first of course, you know with the Grizzlies. The Lakers are interested, the Spurs. Ah, Miami and the Rockets. Those teams are on my list right now. All I have to do is make a phone call to come in and workout. And show them that I am healthy enough to play and to see where it goes from there.

We do not need the Wooden Nickel.

I'd rather have Andrew Gaze again if that is the case.

hmm iam a bit torn at this idea...i used to be a HUGE penny hardaway fan when he was on the magic...but his career has drastically declined. that knee injury basically ended his career. iam sure if he works out with the spurs, the staff will evaluate him fully and make the right decision on if to bring him on board or not.

Vet minimum?

WHy the hell not.

Bet he would be better than Brent Barry.

The guy had nothing left with Phoenix, and he pushed the Spurs pretty damn good.

Dudes a hell of a shooter still.

Vet min, 13th guy, why not?

I'm not really sold on Beno. He's got to PLAY his way into more minutes. I know it takes three seasons to develop a NBA point guard but he is a POINT GUARD on the professional level.

Some things are just inate if you been doing them for a period of time and Beno makes way to many mental mistakes for my taste.

Hell.....we might as well keep NVE then.
Penny is way too injury prone.

I wonder how much of that is Penny trying to create a market for himself. Maybe his people called the Spurs and asked if there would be any interest and when R.C. Buford said "Uh, we'll get back to you," Penny's group took it as a positive sign.

I can't imagine the Spurs would be willing to dole out money on a guy who's barely played in the last 3-4 years and who's been a cancer in most of his situations.

Wait a minute. . .

Spurs need someone tall and athletic. . .Penny's tall and athletic

Spurs need someone who can penetrate and create a shot. . .Penny can do that

Spurs need someone who's a pretty decent perimeter defender. . .Penny's a coachable defender and with his length he could probably learn to be a very good defender.

Oh, wait a minute, we were talking about the Penny Hardaway from 1994 correct?

SsKSpurs21

guys there is nothing confirming he will join the team. its just his wishlist. he will come in and try out. if the staff feels he can contribute in some way he will get signed. if not, off he goes.

Penny for cheap isn't a roster spot wasted. He knows the game well and has a decent shot. If he gets injured, then you never invested much in him anyways.

There isn't shit available, and if Penny can play like he did with the Suns a couple years ago, its a great signing.

If he doesn't, he sits on the bench IE Melvin Sanders.

Big deal.

Big deal. The only thing that concerns me is that he is injury prone, but I guess they can determine what he is capable of in a workout.

My worry with Penny is that Pop would use him at the expense of a younger player's development. Penny would contribute little, and then retire after a disappointing second round series defeat, leaving us with a hole at the reserve 1. . .umm I mean the 2 spot that would have to be filled next summer.

Penny Hardaway, 2005-06:

Games: 4
Minutes: 17.9
FG%: 28.6
Rebounds: 2.5
Assists: 2.0
TO: 1.5
Steals: 0.5
Blocks: 0.0
PF: 1.8
Pts: 2.5

Call me crazy, but to me that says that somebody already put a fork in him. How can he even be worth the veteran minimum?

No doubt. He's done. Why would the Spurs throw money away on that when they could be grooming a potential bowen replacement or someone else with long-term potential?

Oh man, the Magic are my other team. I used to live in Orlando and was going to the games when Penny was being called the next Michael. Now that I live in TX and follow the Spurs, how odd would it be if he ended up here? I know he's been dying for a chance to prove himself, but IMO he's just too old and banged up to contribute. I feel for him though.

We've tried this older vet experience for quiet a while now....we have enough experience with Barry, Finley, Horry, Rasho, and a good portion of the starters already...not just experience but Championship experience.

Now, it's time to load up with some youth.....Matt Barnes, John Salmons, Reggie Evans, and my wish Jared Jeffries

I could live with the 35 part also, but the fact that his 35 is more like 45. He hasn't been productive in yrs. Bowen, Finely have.

I think he's saying that he has the Spurs on his list.

Maybe the Spurs would bring him in and work him out if he or his agent called them. But I don't think that he's one of their top priorities.

Rule number one in improving your stock is telling other teams that the best teams in the league are interested.

This is like not too long ago when Roy Tarpley said the Spurs were interested.

Wow! I think the Spurs organization has been twisted inside out. If they pull the trigger on this, the handwriting will be on the wall.

"Spurs squander another year of it's team's core's prime."

Not to mention, one of the last 3 years they have of winning a championship with truly one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Stay tuned, . . . :fro

Anyone who actually is considering it is blind. Penny stinks. He's a fraction of what he was-- and not even back then. Shaq made him look better than he actually was. The goal is to stay deep, not keep old guys in stock, hoping they'll resurrect themselves for a day. The Van Exel reasoning is justified.
