Not all inclusive, but I got (what I think is) a good hotel deal for my June trip...

$89/night at Treasure Island includes upgrade to a strip view room, $20 free play, $15 lunch/dinner credit and a complementary beverage upon arrival.

Damn, thats not bad at all. I don't care about what kind of room I get, though. I don't plan on being in it very much.

I'm only staying for one night (all the extras are per stay, not per night) so it makes it a better deal.

laid back gambling at Orleans.(you can lose and nobody cares)
great brazilian food at Samba(mirage)
the pancake house for breakfast
mimi's restuarant(also for breakfast)
claim jumper(great home style menu)
the steak house at circus circus is awesome but you have to make reservations 10-14 days in advance.

The Steak House is my favorite.

Also, tips and tricks on anything having to do with Vegas trips would be appreciated.

Tip the cocktail waitresses and tip the dealers. It makes everyone a lot happier.

And the obvious ones - when a table goes cold, walk away quickly.

Don't be afraid to walk away when you're hot, also.

On a serious note... most places have gone to automatic shufflers and two decks alternating hands, Manny. Not sure if this is a concern of yours or not.

Mandalay Bay is one of my favorite rooms just for the layout... it's nice and open, and near the sportsbook. If you are positioned right, this is good because it helps pass the time on a marathon 2/4 session.

Most casinos are offering a $200 buy in NL game these days and some will have $50 or $100 buy in.

My other favorite room is at the Mirage. The Plaza downtown is a surprisingly good place to get a late night game against dealers coming off their shifts, at least it was a few years ago. Obviously, this is a tougher game - but at the limits I was playing at (2/4) against the dealers there was a lot of info you could learn from their experiences watching thousands of other players.

And my favorite tip: stradling is a good way to break the ice and make friends at a quiet table.

From my experience, the competition at the $200 NL games vary between people who have too much money on their hands and people who realize they can make $1000/day. It won't take you long to figure out who is who at the table and adjust your play accordingly. Be cautious though... Vegas is full of "pros" you've never heard of/seen who make a living off the $200 NL internet hotshots. But I would say that a live $200 NL game feels faster than one on the net.

I've made it a point to research what the main tells online players give off are. I don't think i'll eliminate them all, but I have a decent feel to what they are and I can build off of that. Either way, I think after a few orbits it will become clear who I should avoid and who I should go after. The beauty of NL is that you only need to target one or 2 people to force play against and you can do just fine. ABC poker will probably get it done there.

Nice restaurants (you need to have someplace to spend all the money you win)

Picasso's at the Bellagio. 13 pieces of his art, view of the fountains, amazing food (best ever exception below) and service $$$$$ and make your reservations now. Also, you'll have to dress up. I think they have sample menus online.

Aqua at the Bellagio - GREAT seafood, fun atmosphere, chic dress as opposed to dressy.

Del Monico's at Venetian. Emeril's steak house. Delicious. We were just wondering around when we found it and were lucky to get in, the place was full for an early dinner. Also, we were wearing jeans and felt a little under dressed, but of course they acted as if they didn't notice.

Isis at the Luxor. The steak here was actually better than at Picasso's, which in and of itself is amazing. Dark with ancient egypt decor. It wasn't busy at all, and I think we went on a Sunday night, so reservations may not be needed. Wouldn't wear jeans. $$$$$

Shows:

I've never met you but think you'd enjoy Blue Man Group. Their Vegas show is supposed to be the best. Get there early for pre-show entertainment.

Cirque de Soleil's "O" and "Mystere". Best shows I've ever seen. Truly amazing. Our jaws were on the floor the entire time. If you have seen one of their travelling shows (we've only seen Delirium) they don't even begin to compare. John enjoyed "Mystere" more, which surprises me because it's more about human emotion. I've read that their new burlesque show "Ka" is not that great. (I think that's the name). The woman are all natural, but they're supposed to look like gymnasts. I'm disappointed because we wanted to see it next time we were in town.

Don't laugh. Wayne Newton. Can't stand the man but I went because I love my husband. It was a great show, lots of fun.

As soon as you make your reservation you can work with the concierge to get good seats to the events and restaurants.

For Jess to do while you're gambling, there is a museum in the Venetian, the Hoover Dam, lots of different types of tours of the Grand Canyon, and all of the fun rides at the top of the Stratosphere.

So, I'm nosy, why do you HAVE to go? And why many shorter trips instead of one long one?

Vegas ROCKS!!!!

I've only been once, so I don't have any insider tips or anything, but there is NOTHING funnier than walking down the strip and seeing those kids handing out hooker flyers to old farts.

Oh wait, I do have one tip: if you see a buffet full of Japanese tourists, there's a pretty good chance there will be plenty of fried shrimp available. We did the buffet at Bally's at the same time as a Japanese tourist group and they avoided the shrimp like the plague. I chowed down!

But here's how dated my info is: the seafood buffet at The Sands sucks ass. :lmao

Tip: If you want to go anywhere outside your hotel, even downtown to Fremont Street (light show is a must see at night), there is a bus that you can get a day-pass for $5. You can ride as many times as you want, go anywhere the bus goes. Even if you want to go from one end of the strip to the other (or anywhere in between), that bus is a great deal and time saver. There are so many streets you cannot cross on the street level and it takes a lot of time and energy to climb all those sets of steps to cross over (and some of them are not really right on the corner).

Also, there is a monorail that goes from Mandalay Bay to the Sahara. It was still under construction the last time I was there, but it is open now. I have heard that you can get a pass for it, too, for $20/day, and it's super fast. I don't know where it stops in between those two places, though, and it does not go downtown.

Couple of places I recommend seeing: The NASCAR Cafe (it is a super cool place, even if you are not into racing), the Harley Davidson Cafe, the Coca Cola museum and M&M world. The Imperial Palace has an permanent antique car show (I think it's on the 5th floor) that is something to see, and I think it's pretty cheap.

I have only been to Vegas twice; once I stayed at the New Frontier (it's very old, but a very cool place, especially if you're a beginner) and once at the Imperial Palace. The location of the Imperial Palace is ideal, plenty of strip in either direction.

I also recommend the Wayne Newton show. He is excellent in a live show, and the Stardust is his home theater. It's a great variety show with excellent music.

Manny, if you are looking for somewhere decent bordering on nice, but still cost efficient, check out the Sahara. You can usually get in for $39-59/night. I've never seen one of the rooms, but the casino is decent given it's location (North Strip - the old part).

Also... I've got Karo's Book of Poker Tells if you want to barrow it. You're game is good enough where you don't need it, but it couldn't hurt - especially if you are going to be playing 18 hours a day of live poker.

I've taken two-day trips out of Austin flying America West at odd hours that's just over $200 RT, but if you break down and need a room you might as well get a nifty $300 package flying out of SA if you want to stay on the strip. Ive heard they finally tore down the Westward Ho motel and are gonna soon tear down the Stardust and the Circus/Circus to build a larger resort. The Frontier is scary and the Stratesphere will costs you plenty in cab fees to get around. I usually stay at the Excalibur because it's economical, easy to get to In&Out burger (my favorite), they have a 24-hour poker-room at the Luxor next door, and your not gonna walk far to all the best (over-priced) hotels on the strip. TI is nice too, but if you want old-school vegas on the strip, with Sammy and Dean, at a nice price, the Tropicana is the best choice. The Aladin was just redone, but those rooms go for over $100/night.

If your gonna play on the live tables watch out for marks, these are guys who gamble for the hotel who's job it is to throw off a hot hand. Vegas isn't in business to just give cash away. Under Nevada gambling law, if you ask a employee of the Casino if anyone at your table besides the dealer is working for the Casino they must answer you truthfully.

I'm working on a machine-gambling theory.
