LuLu's has a big daddy cf but it lacks seasoning IMO. The Texan on the Southside is really good. Pleasanton/Division...

Tip Top was always my favorite. It beat the hell out of Good Time Charlie's chicken fried steak, and the thing was fucking huge. Tip Top always had a pretty long wait to get in whenever I went.

TT does it for me. I've said this more than one thread, they have a special on Tuesdays. I believe it's 5.95 for CFS and two sides. Get there early, they're usually very packed.

Mama's Cafe. Those mashed potatoes are to die for, and the CFS is excellent. Lots of good cream gravy (not too salty like some places). Cheap, too. I have only eaten CFS at the one at the Forum, though.

the places mentioned in this thread are hard to go wrong with, they are all good for chicken fried steak. I would add a chain to the mix. Texas Roadhouse.

Interestingly enough, I haven't been to the ones here in San Antonio. The one in Victoria was nothing special. The one in Waco was out of this world. I guess they vary from location to location.

Yes! Yes! How could I forget the Texas Roadhouse? They have excellent, delicious CFS! I guess I forgot it because I don't usually have that there (there are so many good things on the menu). I usually have the chicken ceasar salad (yum!) or my all-time favorite: Roadkill. And their baked potatoes rock - I've never gotten a bad one. And I think the quality of the food does vary between locations; I didn't like the one in Dallas (and I wouldn't go to one for a long, long time because of a bad experience), but the one at the Forum is excellent. I guess the reason Mama's came to mind so quickly is I had chicken fried steak there last Saturday. :spin Chili's CFS is not bad, either, and they also have delicious gravy and mashed potatoes; but I don't get that a lot there, either, because there is always SO DANGED MUCH of it...I usually get the Monterey Chicken or the Old Timer burger with cheese.

The best tasting Cchicken Fried steak can be found at "The Iron Skillet" in the Petro truckstop at I-10 and Akerman.
The biggest has to go to 'Bud Jones"!
