We've got many San Antonians on that forum and we've got some international fans.
I noticed fans from France, Slovenia, New Zeland, Australia, Argentina.
My Q is :are there any other 'Nations' on that forum who are chearing for the Spurs?
And (for everybody) What was the reason becoming the San Antonio fan?
I suppose for the 'internationals' is the fact that their country is represented in NBA by the man who is playing for the Spurs.
But maybe there are other reasons, so I would like to know.
I would be glad to hear from You :eyebrows
The reason I am a Spurs Fan is David Robinson. Read an article about him and started liking basketball because of him. This was late 1990 when I was only a young fella.

As you stated correctly, in my case its the fact that Manu plays for the Spurs.
But now that I have followed the team for two seasons, I have to add that the Spurs organization is a class act and its fans are increadibly cool (at least the ones that post here).
This year I will follow the Bulls (Nocioni) and, too a lesser degree, the Pistons (Delfino, although I think he will be carrying the other players´ gym bags for a while before he gets some playing time).
Nevertheless, those teams will be way behind the Spurs in the pecking order.

I followed the Spurs ever since Gaze played for them in 1999, ah the golden years...

Similar to MI21, my reason was the one and only Mr. Robinson. We got a highlights show from my memory and I also read an article around...93 in which it entailed how David was the leader and so forth. Also, the pic in the article was looking up at him and he looked so intimidating (considering I would have been a youngun at the time) and focused.
Anyway, I kept an eye on D-Rob in the highlights show we got and bought a few of the NBA (combined with NBL) magazines and gradually made my way into being a Spurs fan.
The net really helped me in becoming a hardcore fan with my access to information and stuff.
Was purely fate that my favourite Australian ball player (Gaze) was on the roster for awhile.
Anyway, in short - David Robinson. :hat

I became fan of Spurs when Rasho came in San Antonio last year and now Beno came here so what to tell! :spin We have now two players in San Antonio. So Spurs now became very known in Slovenia.
First time that i start to watch NBA when i was 11 years old! Bulls and MJ play with Jazz! I will never forget those games! :rolleyes Good old times!
But now I`m 20 yrs old and everything change.
Now Slovenia have 5 NBA players! In Slovenia lives just 2.000.000 people. And we are very good in sports.
But here in Slovenia i can`t watch games of San Antonio. Non TV is broadcasting NBA games only sometimes on SAT tv but 2-3 times on month so ?
It`s been talking that national TV will broadcasting NBA games of San Antonio but nothing.
When season begins on this site are NBA games so i DOWNLOAD them!

I planing to came to San Antonio on NBA game in next 1-3 years!

The whole country is cheering for the spurs and call Sato, the National pride. His last trip home, he met with the president, it was huge.

I'm from France,
I started to look at NBA in the early 90's, two players were shinning (to my eyes) D Rob & Drexler. But I really appreciate the personality of D Rob and like his team. Now when Tony Parker arrived in the Spurs roster, I had the occasions to watch more games & become a true Spurs fan. I like the fact that with a half payroll (compare to NY, LA, Dallas...) they managed to become an incredible team (with a real notion of team & not just stellars who play for their stats...). And I like the role player style, with combination of big, small, quick ... different quality for different post, that's basketball :elephant

Me myself was born 27 years ago in Holland where I still live and work.
In 1991 I discovered NBA Basketball and since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics I have been an avid David Robinson fan.
Travelled all around the US 6 times in 3 years time to see The Admiral in action.
Attending the entire Spurs playoffs I did in 2002 and 2003.

I still drop by the forum most days to keep myself updated though.
The spurs have a good chance to win it all this year, and I sure hope they do! Tim must have a chip on his shoulder after all this monkey business with the olympics.
But I still miss seeing David Robinson on the court. Saw him in a magazine circa 1992 and he's been my role model ever since. He's the reason I like the spurs, but Manu has filled that gap somewhat.

That was a coincidence - that I start keening basketball.
I met someone who was interested in NBA. He has got aa NBA TV game and I was looking for a team - first it was NJ but soon I changed it on SA- I start winning games!
I sad ok.
I met Dave, Sean etc. It was summer 1995. So I begin cheering Spurs with the begining of 95/96 season.
On (public- for everybody) tv they were jut showing 45minutes Wensdey games on Fridays. And a magazine NBA Action. Only All-Star game and the finals were live. I didn't had an internet than. I watched every, every game that was on tv. :smokin
And now I love that organization. I coudn't imagine better team. Better people on that team ( I mean not only on the court).
But for 4 years from now I don't have NBA games at my house.
F*** :pctoss
I only saw about 15 games last year at my friends(not close one) house. I recorded them and I watch them(damn) on video.
S*** I don't have money to buy that frickin decoder from the station who have rights from NBA.
OK that's too much.
I hope you could read this because I'm not feeling comfortable in English.
All in all through coinsidence to true love.
Ps. Is a coinsidence that Tim Duncan start playing basketball after "Hugo"?

It's nice to see some Filipino Spurs fans in here.
I've been a Spurs fan since David Robinson's rookie season and up to an extent, since George Gervin's thanks to betamax tapes that my relatives used to send me from the States. My first live Spurs game came just this year in that playoff game between the Lakers and the Spurs. It was the first I think where Parker had an insane game. Did I save lots of money for plane tickets, etc and was planning of staying for the second game. Pity that my sister got sick and I had to return to the Philippines and fill in for her spot as a volunteer in the recently concluded Philippine presidential elections. I got jeered when the Lakers swept 4 games (tough to live in a Laker country).
The only time I ever got to San Antonio again was when Manny Pacquiao beat Marco Antonio Barrera in the Alamodome.

Don't worry about your English, it's fine. In fact, better than a lot of people on the forum.
:smokin
Thanks a lot. I am wondering if I am the only german here. This is by far the best Spurs board I found so far. Its sad that only a few Spurs games are broadcasted here in Germany. The first game I will be able to see is Spurs- Heat. The only way to stay up to date is WOAI.com and NBA.com and of course this board. I really hope to come back to SA within the next 3 years to take a look at the new SBC Center. Is it better than the Alamo Dome?
By the way: Is there a timetable for Linton Johnsons return?

I think you may be the only German poster so far. During most games, there's a lot of people in our chatroom that will give you updates and play-by-play on what's going on during the game.
The SBC Center is completely different than the 'Dome. Less spacious, but very up-to-date.
Linton is expected to be out two+ weeks -- he is walking with an aircast now to prevent him from banging his ankle.

PolandPrzem i remember the good, old days of the NBA in polish tv. There wasn't much , so you had to cherish every minute of it.
I started following the NBA thanks to a Spurs - Jazz game I saw on polish tv. My dad lived in San Antone so it naturally drew my attention and i became a huge DRob fan instantly. One of the first games I remember pretty well was Magic Johnsons farewell All Star game with that crazy three point hook shot or whatever - there was something nuts about that play. Anyway, you could count me in as a hardcore NBA and Spurs fan ever since then although most my friends at the time cheered for the Bulls or later for O'Neal and the Magic. I had since moved to SA and cannot complain about the local NBA or Spurs coverage ;). I always thought the Spurs had a very good chance to win it all, almost every year since Robinson was drafted. I did, like many of y'all i'm sure suffer through a number of dissapointing play offs but finally experienced my team win the big one in 99. Before the two championships, my favorie Spurs teams were Robinson/Cummings/Elliott/Anderson/Strickland back in '92 or '93 and 95's team that featured DRob/Rodman/Elliott/DelNegro/AJ. I thought Spurs had a chance to go all the way with both of those teams, although i have to admitt that first team didnt play much d aside from David - sure looked good on paper though, and the second, well i blame most of it on Rodman.
Anyhow, PolandPrzem its good to hear from a fellow polish fan who remembers those days.

polandprzem you asked what we know about Poland! My first thought are Polish women, then Adam Malysz, Adam Wojcik, Goran Jagodnik oops he´s Slovene, Prokm Trefl (they have won a todays game in EL), Jirzi Dudek, and i must not forget Wojtila the pope. :smokin
Yes Jagodnik is not pole as 90% in Polish League :(
Wójcik, Małysz, Prokom trefl (30km.from place where I live)
But pope - come on - Wojtyła was his name before he became a pope.
Jizi Dudek - well accualy his name is Jerzy.
If not him in todays game against France we would be loosing after 1 half 0:3 I'm waiting for the second
--------------------------------
EDIT
0:0 agaist France quite good game and fenomenal by Dudek :hat
Oh Yes Olisadebe. But I don't realy think he wanted it.

I invite everyone to my flat in beautiful Ptuj to watch football match. I will have Slovenian wine to drink and cheese and crackers to eat. Afterwards we will pleasure ourselves and our women on the hillsides under the night sky to celebrate Team Slovenia victory.

I'm from the Philippines. Never thought I would follow another big man after Hakeem Olajuwon. Then I saw Duncan play, and the rest is history.

Hello, everyone. I was reading these forums for a long time now, but this is my first post. I like spurs, because of their team system of play, but of course as I'm from Slovenia, having Rasho and Beno on the team doesn't hurt :). I'd like a flag too.

Thanks for the nice wallpaper, as well as for this thread.
I come from Hong Kong of China. The Spurs became one of my favorite teams since the 1999 Finals. Since 2003 I am a loyal Spurs fan. (You may say the winning nature of the Spurs attracted me.)
