I'm not a big dining out person. The most I'll do is fast food or maybe a nice Indian Food place...maybe Olive Garden or Zios once in a while. But I love good food. I just hate trying new places.

So, what's your favorite place to dine out?

Well I'm not going out so I eat at my house.

But every year I'm going on a vacation to the same place and then I go out with some friends.

Where I live I have no friends :)

I don't have one favorite place; it depends on what I'm hungry for as to where I want to go...

Italian: Pompeii Grill on Nacogdoches Rd or Johnny Carino's in New Braunfels
Pizza: Catalano's in Cibolo (EZ's calzone is very good, too; Rome's Pizza on Bitters is good, too, but that's a long way for me...Bambino Huey's on West Ave. used to be the best, but they screwed up a good thing when they changed it to Boccone's - exorbitant prices for small portions and it's not THAT good)
Chicken: Monterey Chicken at Chili's
Steak: Texas Roadhouse
Chicken Fried Steak: Mama's
Seafood: Sea Island or Red Lobster
Mexican: Garcia's on FM 3009
Barbecue: Harmon's in Cibolo (or Rudy's will do in a pinch)
Breakfast Tacos: B.G.'s Catering in Schertz or La Tortillita in Cibolo

Goro's is sushi, and it's at Vance Jackson and 4I0 - Azuca is Latin/Caribbean/Mexican type food down on Alamo south of downtown (they have amazing seafood and really good mojitos).

I want, make that need, to find a better Thai restaurant. Asia Kitchen just isn't cutting it for me anymore. I need better Phad Thai, damnit.

As for restaurants that haven't been said yet, I like La Madeleine. I've been wanting to try the Melting Pot but have yet to do so. How unfortunate.

For good Thai food, go to Sarika's over on Medical and Fredricksberg - that place is awesome (get the pineapple fried rice if they have it when you go, they don't do it every day). Manny gets Pad Thai at Firebowl in the Quarry a lot, and it's pretty good, too.

Pompeii Grill is very good for the price; and the service is outstanding. Good bread and salad, too. We go there once a week, usually on Saturday for lunch. If you like CaliMex, the same people run a Mexican restaurant down the street, Salsalito. I like it ok, but I prefer TexMex.

Americas in Houston on Post Oak Blvd

If you are in Houston, you have to go here.

Here is a review:

For sheer drama, it's hard to top this jewel in chef Michael Cordúa's restaurant empire. Handsome as the high-ceilinged, rock-walled first floor bar may be, nothing in it prepares you for the dining room above, which includes realistic representations of Incan stonework and way-out light fixtures in wild colors. As the name suggests, influences from North, South and Central America converge here into an eclectic yet harmonious New World Cuisine. Though the lunch and dinner menus vary, the tenderest of meats, breathtaking sauces, elegantly grilled vegetables and unexpected accents are hallmarks of both. For lunch, don't overlook the marvelously meatless yucca polenta or the torta púchica, an open-faced sandwich on a Mexican roll, featuring delicate pork tenderloin awakened by lime, scallions and roasted red peppers. At dinner, try the medallón con cepas, which pairs charred tenderloin with a mushroom-studded Chilean bordelaise sauce. Be sure to explore the wine list, which includes an extensive selection of South American vintages. The service is top-notch and unobtrusively attentive. In all regards, we feel that Américas is a reliable place to take someone you want to impress---or indulge.

I haven't eaten out a lot in San Antonio. We usually just stop and have lunch there when we're driving down to Kingsville, but I love, love, love everything I've ordered at Rosario's (I always send an occasional prayer that they'll one day bottle their hot sauce and sell it here) and Liberty Bar is excellent. I could live on their bread alone.

Fonda San Miguel, original Kerby Lane Cafe off 35th, Polvo's (best salsa in town), Capitol City Steakhouse (in the lobby of embassy suites downtown - superb cuts but odd location)

Does anyone remember a place called Tequila Charlie's on the River Walk? I loved that place. Then one day I head down there and it's GONE. I don't think I've been back to the River Walk since.

Italian - Reggiano's (TP's dad took us there and it was the best I've had in S.A.)

Try Grissini (but know that it's not cheap and a meal is supposed to take a while.)

Favorite places would include El Mirador, Mario’s, Liberty Bar, Chris Madrid’s, Boudro’s and this place called Los Valles on the soufside. They have bad ass agua frescas and tacos al pastor.

I try and stay away from chain restaurants as much as possible but they’re unavoidable. But I like California Pizza Kitchen and EZ's. Chain steakhouse restaurants are a rip off. I also especially try and avoid a restaurant that’s off the damn freeway unless I’m going to Whataburger or Subway.

EZs is decent. I like the rosemary chicken.

Blue Star is aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesome. I don't know how that got this far without being mentioned. Love that place. Mexican Manhattan is good too. Van's Seafood on Broadway is pretty decent.

Yes.

CHeesecake factory is waaaay overrated. I could get that same food cheaper at a dozen other restaurants. The cheesecake is good, but the food was mediocre.

Same here.

The food is...ok. It's not bad or great it's just...ok. I love the setup though. I would definately take a girl there. But the food isn't something I would crave or anything.

The Cheesecake Factory in Marina del Rey, CA has awesome food (not just the cheesecake). I've never been to the one in San Antonio though.

It seems like a lot of people in San Anton don't like it...maybe they just don't like Chinese food...

I love Chinese food.

I'm not a big fan of PF Changs, though. If they served the same quality of food in the mall, or somewhere else where the setup wasn't so fancy they would go out of business.

I don't know how you can say that. The quality of the meat at PF Chang's is better than any other Chinese Food place in San Antonio (Golden Wok might be the same).

But I guess it's just preference. To me, Golden Wok and PF Chang's are 10 times better than any of Chinese food restaurant here.

I don't think PDBM is getting the right food at PF Changs. Mongolian beef and the orange beef/chicken are excellent.

So are the Kung Pao dishes, Chung Bo steak, and just about any other chicken or beef dish. They also have very good noodles ... though they took out Szechwan Chicken Chow Fun, which was my favorite.

One of my beef with PF Changs is the dishes always seem to be a little on the sweet side. I would rather my meat/food/vegetables/whatever be on the salty/spicy side. Someting about eating sweet meat just doesn't tickle my pickle. =/

P.S - I've been to PF Changs only 3 times in my life. So I've only tried about 3 dishes. =)

BBQ--Blue Cactus Cafe
Cheap Mexican--Las Palapas
Steak--Saltgrass
Italian--Capparelli's
Pizza--Rome's
Chinese--Ming Tree

Has anyone here tried SA Prime? I saw them listed on restaurant.com and I was thinking about Father's Day--my husband lives for prime rib. Any info would be appreciated.

Haven't been there in a few years, but Piedras Negras was incredible.

Little Hipps Hamburgers was a favorite of mine, too. Too bad it closed down.

Is Oscars on the southside still open? If they are, get the puffy tacos.

Perico's, Chris Madrid's, Reggiano's, Saltgrass, Piatti's, Macaroni's, Rudy's, ChaCho's, the pizza place upstairs in Ingram Mall has some awesome marinara sauce that I dip pizza & calzones in, to me Chinese is Chinese(all the same, yeah yeah, I know, "PF Chang's...", blah blah blah)

Out of SA:--
King Taco(LA), Cabo Wabo(Cabo), Thurman's(Columbus)

Hard to find GOOD Carne Asada & fish tacos in SA.

Haven't read this whole thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...

But check out Sompong's on Fredricksburg and Datapoint. I love their Pad Thai

I like Papa Dante's too.

Papa Dante's is great. Did you know there is a "Little Dante's" now, too? It's on Pat Booker Rd where the old Subway used to be. I haven't been there yet, but it looks nice, they have little tables on the sidewalk. I used to go to Dante's a lot, but I've only been once in the past couple of years.

La Margarita is a great date restaurant.

La Margarita is also a great place to take people from out of town. They love the atmosphere...and although the food is ok, it's only slightly overpriced. But I have never taken anyone there from out of town who didn't just love it.

I like Saltgrass, but I have never eaten at one in San Antonio, only in Houston and Dallas. But, you'd have to go far to beat that ribeye at TR, IMO.
