Sorry, hard to be cheery on a thread after the most dissapointing season, as was said.

When you finish a season without a ring.

Its a failure, and complete wasted year.

Nothing good came out of it.

Period.

angel_luv
06-01-2006, 09:12 PM
Would the season have been labeled the most disappointing had we won it all? I think not.

So you don't like the way the play offs turned out for us. I'll give you that.

However, failure to win it all should not in any way negate everything the guys accomplished over the course of the season. 63 wins is no small thing.

uh no, thats a given. Any season that finishes with a ring is a success, anything other than that is a failure

FACT.

The Spurs never looked like a championship team this year. They coasted on talent all season, and 63 wins or not, this team couldn't hold the jocks of the 2005 or 2003 teams even though they should have been way better. This season was disappointing as hell, because the Spurs fielded the deepest team in franchise history. If Tim had been hurt in the playoffs like he was in the season I guess I could stomach it more, but he was 100%. Anything less than a title is a complete failure with this roster.

Agreed, and the way we went out just made it all the worse. To fight your asses off, come all the way back, and lose it on a boneheaded blunder to one of your biggest rivals, on your own court, and with the a-hole who just called out the entire city of San Antonio jumping up and down celebrating.... yeah, it sucks hard.

If Detroit loses to Miami, this'll go down as by far the worst season in franchise history.

That said, 63 wins will be a mark that probably won't be broken anytime soon. Pop will make sure the team goes thru some type of adversity next season.

Spurs needed like a four game losing streak or a locker room brawl or something. They weren't tough enough when the going got tough.

Oh, come on timvp! I usually agree with you, but this is way off.

Spurs came back being down 3-1, and came back being down 20 in Game 7.

All this talk the Spurs weren't tough enough, or didn't want it more, is bullshit.

They just got a little unlucky, pure and simple. (And, yes, there is luck in basketball!) Mavs made their shots, Spurs didn't, and they win the series.

We'll be right back next year, and maybe the ball bounces our way then.

Finley can still throw it down with style when he feels like it, and wow I didn't know that Bowen had such a huge consecutive games started streak going. As physical a defender he is you would have expected him to wear down and become more susceptible to injuries as he ages but he just keeps rolling along.

To me, the highlights of the 2005-2006 season: Spurs grabbing Finley when everyone thought for sure he'd be going to Miami, Tony Parker making All-Star, and Bruce Freakin Bowen---to me he was the more impressive than even Parker this season. At the beginging of the season, I thought for sure that he wouldn't be able to keep up his defense as he has been in years past, yet he proved me wrong :tu

Spurs looked weak against the Kings. Spurs looked weak against Detroit in the regular season. When it mattered, the Spurs couldn't grab a rebound.

I never said they didn't want it. This Spurs team was hungry. They just hadn't faced any challenges until the playoffs. If you look at every championship team the Spurs have had, they've had rough patches in the regular season to build up their mental toughness.

The regular season was too easy and they didn't know how to battle until it was too late.

I was with you until there. I don't buy unlucky any more than I buy not tough enough. If you roll them by 20 points a game, you don't need any luck.

The Spurs simply weren't good enough to consistently beat Dallas. I'm chalking it up to matchups and personnel. If we get better, we won't have to worry about luck.

Sorry, but Luck is always a factor.

Or, do you think the Spurs somehow kept Horry's shot from going down in Game 5 of 2003?

Or, that crazy shot from Fisher with 0.4 seconds, didn't have a little luck to it?

I agree that teams shouldn't rely on luck, but in any game where there are so many factors in play, luck plays a roll.

And when two teams like the Spurs and Mavs were matched so evenly, luck plays even a bigger role in deciding who wins. Not the sole reason by any means, but one of many.

Of course luck is a factor. But how much luck did we need to bury the Lakers in 4 in '99? Teams that are good enough don't have to hope the breaks go their way. The Spurs could have ended up with a title this year. But if they had, it wouldn't have been because they were genuinely better than other teams they played like the Mavs. That's what I want to see.
