Am I the only one that feels like the Heat are going to choke at home tonight? They did it last year so maybe it happens again.

06-02-2006, 05:47 PM
I don't know about choking but I hope the Pistons win 'cause if the Mavs make it to the Finals I think they match up better with them than with the Heat.

Mavs have no answer for Shaq...you can't "Hack-A-Shaq" for 48 minutes. Especially now that Mbenga's 6 fouls wouldn't be available for the first few games.

mavsfan1000
06-02-2006, 06:14 PM
I disagree. Dallas matches up better with Miami. The main thing is Miami has no one to guard Dirk, Howard, and Terry. Dallas should be scoring at will and Dallas can throw Diop and Dampier at Shaq. Wade is a beast though but Dallas can throw Adrian Griffin at him and funnel him toward Diop.

Just a hunch....Heat will close it out tonight.

Bob Lanier

Javie and Eddie F Rush along with Callahan. Rush is a Piston-killer, and Javie's on a perpetual power trip. Pick up your technicals early!

Williams is blowing by Billups already. And Prince a wide-open airball, Peja-style. :depressed

But Chauncey's running the offense as well as he has in months tonight.

Ben makes a pair at the line? In-fucking-credible. :fro

The offense looks great. The defense looks absolutely terrible. Unless Flop can adjust the way Billups is handling the pick-and-roll defense, we're going to have huge problems.

Prince is shrivelling, and I really wish Dale Davis would get into the game for Ben.

Bob Lanier
06-02-2006, 07:44 PM
25-20 Miami after 1. That's not bad.

I really shouldn't have to take dramamine to watch a basketball game. One camera angle would be more than adequate.

Hubie = Pistons' nut sack holder
You didn't listen to him in the Cleveland series, did you? If this is "nutsack holding", I'd probably be banned for describing what he was doing to LeBron James.

Good god Dice. A turnover and a fumble...

Dice+Sheed is doing a better job defending Shaq than Ben is, though.

:lol He encourages Ben when he went to the line. When he made both, Hubie was jumping with jubilation. "There you go"

Then when Jwill kept driving and making layups in the first, he sounded upset. "You can't let that happen"

Then a graphic was shown that in this series, the team that had a first quarter lead is 5-0. "You can throw those percentages out the window" That is true but his expression is clearly for the pistons

Bob Lanier
06-02-2006, 08:01 PM
Oh, I realize that Hubie's a Pistons fan. But it mostly balances out with Mike Breen's sanctimonious disapproval.

Evans+Ben = 3 on 5 offense for Detroit - were it not for Shaq's ridiculously slow pick-and-roll defense. Wade completely ignoring Mo Evans in the corner and shadowing the ballhandler 20 feet away from him is a sight to behold.

47-36 Heat at halftime.

Ben Wallace has been a complete non-factor, but has still managed to play most of the game.
Rasheed Wallace has been fronted, which completely confuses the guards, and has missed a couple of easy shots.
Tayshaun Prince has been a complete non-factor, but has still managed to play most of the game due to Mo Evans being ludicrously ineffective.
Rip Hamilton is dribbling.
Chauncey Billups has been outplayed by Lindsey Hunter once again.
Dice hasn't touched the ball.

I hope they enjoy fishing.

The pistons were playing great when they were holding on to their last breathes late in the 4th quarter. Why couldn't they play with the same kind of desperation earlier in the game.

uhhhhh. Flip is available for comment right now. Turn your tvs up.

my opinion is he cried as soon as his team lost when he was in the locker room. His face was bright red. He wiped the tears off his face and went to the post game conference. Just my theory.

I would agree that a healthy Shaq and Wade are the biggest differences in this series compared to last year's.

So sorry Piston's fans - I really feel your pain. I'm just now getting over the pain and bitterness of the Spurs untimely exit.

Really, I think this is the end of an era in the NBA. The Spurs and Pistons were built on the premise that "defense wins championships" and they acquired the guys necessary to beat the powerhouses of years past. Now, it's all about offense and running and jacking up shots. Not as much finesse or fundamentals, if you ask me.

It will be interesting to see what the Spurs and Pistons do in the offseason and how they build for the "new" NBA.

Avery better win now...

Pistons are loser for this season. Miami was the better team.

It sucks.

But, that's how pro sports is ... heartbreak for 97% of the league. Absolute jubilation for 3%.

Pistons were bad. They played horribly for much of the playoffs. Heat deserved to win.

Congrats, Heat.

Sad to see the Pistons shoot so poorly and be so uncompetitive when their offense was so productive all season.

If anyone's gonna win another Title...it better be (ulp) Shaq...but I think Dirk might just go all the way.

Possible scenarios:

Shaq 4 Rings, 4th Final MVP?? or possibly (if Wade performs like he did in this series) Wade First Finals MVP (Laughs @ Kobe who couldn't just wait a couple years to evolve into 1st option)

Dirk 1st Finals Appearance, 1st Ring, 1st Final MVP

Unlikely scenario :

Nash 1st Finals Appearance

Nash 1st Finals Appearance, 1st Ring, 1st Finals MVP

They figured out the offense...run a zone all day. No one wants to go to the post.

I think the Pistons got cocky. They always had that swagger but it was as a group; I noticed they kept trying to go one on one at times and only played Detroit Basketball when they fell behind....

Probably because they realized their true playoff leader was missing, and showed little confidence in the new guy who couldn't keep them tight as a cohesive unit like Larry Brown did. Sucks because when they're all playing as the 5-unit team, they're basically unbeatable. Especially with their Offensive-Defensive edge. Pistons could have made this series more competitive than it really was. Last year they took the Heat to 7 games. This year that sense of entitlement off their 64 win Season-And knowing they were the best team in the league, killed them.

No - his face was clearly very red in the in-game photos as well. It was a sunburn.

Phoenix had better win, because there is no way I can see myself rooting for either Miami or Dallas. They are my 2 least favorite teams in the L.

Seriously, it's so pathetic, I want to cry and mourn what has become of the NBA...

Pistons don't have a low post prescence or a go to guy. Billups proved he wasn't one in this series and they lost. Miami just shoots too high of a percentage with Wade and Shaq.

Yeah Detroit needed Wade and Shaq to be injured again to win this series. Unfortunately that is what they depended on with the Heat and Lakers or the past 2 years and even Indiana.
