Conroy, after spending his first pro season in the NBA's developmental league, has a workout lined up with the San Antonio Spurs, who considered signing him a year ago.

FYI, he's a 6'2 PG out of Univ of Washington.

Is he Mike Wilks kind of guy?

Well he's about 4 inches taller than Wilks.

I don't know much about him. He averaged about 13 points and 7 assists in the DLeague.

Yep. Little to no offensive game. Team player. Good teammate.

He played pretty well when John Lucas got called up. I remember him as kind of inconsistent, capable of big scoring and assist nights but just as easily turning the ball over a whole lot. Probably a better shooter than the D-Leaguers I have mentioned before (save Ramel Curry, but he's currently an SG for the most part).

6' 1" in socks, 6' 2" in shoes, 188.6 lbs., 6' 3" wingspan, 8' 0½" standing reach.

Well maybe worth trying.
Beno the backing PG though

Yeah, he'd be ok as a third string. I think Aaron Miles takes care of the ball better and really improved his scoring late in the season, but Conroy could work out.

My homer choice would be Derrick Zimmerman, but unless he really works on converting his athleticism into offense, his comparative upside is Jason Hart.

THEY SAID IT:“It will be tough on Will Conroy because he is playing so well, but I’m not going to have a guy like (John) Lucas 3 lose his spot because he got called up. Will is worthy of a call up and new he has to go back to the bench.”

- Tulsa coach Joey Meyer told the Tulsa World on the 66ers point guard conundrum feb 9, 2006.

Don't know about this one. Spurs need consistency at that position. Beno needs to get confidence and show that he can lead the team.

Surely somebody else may be in the works.

Brandon Roy article with one line mentioning Conroy.

I can't find much media info about him

"Strengths: A natural leader who takes control of his team and elevates the play of his teammates. Quick first step allows him to get into the lane, where he looks to find people. Strong build for a point guard."

Why shouldn't we assume that the workout is more closely associated with deciding to give Conroy some run in a summer league or camp than it is with deciding whether to add him to the roster?

Unless we're getting rid of Beno and keeping this new kid at the 3rd PG spot...what are we thinking?

We need a solid backup PG, not a below average 3rd stringer.

It seems more logical that way.

Its a workout, not a contract offer. Damn.

I'm sure you are correct.

The Spurs need to fill out a summer league roster.
