Damn! Just sitting here hungry and somehow this came to mind. They had some damn good country cooking and sweet tea. Too bad they're not here anymore.

The only one I can remember was the one on Walzem, cause my Dad and I drove by it everytime he took me to my Moms ... lol

I miss Bill Miller the most though, since moving to Houston I haven't been able to find anything to replace it!

Yup, that was the one right up the road from where I still live. They had several around town. Now Las Palapas sits there I believe. Funny how things change in time.

They had one on Fred. Rd. near Crossroads (Wonderland) Mall. The closest thing to that now, foodwise, would be Cracker Barrel.

Po Folks was excellent, and the food was much like the food I grew up on in Georgia and South Carolina. A lot like my grandmothers', aunts', and Mom's cooking. We used to go to the one on Walzem and the one on Nacogdoches. Loved those chicken livers! Cracker Barrel is probably the closest thing I can think of, too. It's just plain food. It may be a little heavy for some, but it's good homestyle cooking for a gal from the deep South.

There is no truth to the myth that the only people that eat at Cracker Barrel are red-necked Jetta owners. You know, "those people".

That place rocked, I remember that the fred road one was always packed. Then I remember they killed some guy there in a cooler and next thing you know business went down the tubes.

I think I might start a thread of old restaurants that closed in SA.

Gator nuggets are delicious if done right. The best I had was actually at Margaritaville in the French Quarter in New Orleans.

There is a restaurant in Houston that is very much like the Tin Bucket; it is CALLED the Mason Jar and they serve all their drinks in mason jars as well. Food is excellent, good southern home cookin'. The pork chops are to die for.

Too bad Walzem has turned into a shithole. I feel bad for the folks in Windcrest. That's still nice but surrounded by shit.

I thought this thread was about Po Boy Pantry. Man, they had some awesome sandwiches back in the 80's. They also had a working train that circled the ceiling of the restaurant -good times.

Sounds like a major upgrade. Machacado from Las Palapas is great shit.

Bizzarely, they had a location on Fair Avenue (not too far from Highlands HS) for quite a while. It was a pretty odd location with only several dumpy and very old strip malls near by.

I loved the Chicken Fried Steak from Po Folks.

If we'd given my Dad a choice, he would always eat at the Tin Bucket Cafe.
