What was it for those of us who puke at the sight of the Mavericks.

Well, first the ABC intro had voice-overs of great calls from the playoffs by Johnny Most, Brent Mussberger, and others with footage of classic shots and moments of the playoffs from the 60s, 70s, 80, 90s, and 00s. Some of the videos were made to look like video game graphics or actually were video game graphics. One with Timmy posting up. At the very end it showed Manu being hugged and lifted up by Sean Marks (I think).

Then the Mavs intros had music from The Who with the starters coming off the Larry O' trophy platform, like last year, only very well done.

It certainly brought back some of the feelings from previous Finals with the Spurs.

Right behind that, you could see the clip of David and Tim lifting the trophies side-by-side in New York.

I know most Spurs fans aren't like this, but it's funny how Mavs fans come on here and get dogged for not watching last year's Finals (I watched a few games, not all, but about 2 or 3) and are accused of not being NBA fans.
And now several Spurs fans say they won't watch a second of these Finals, but they are the far superior fan and a true fan of the NBA.

It's comical.

Nothing... read some replies tho. A few Spurs fans said in this thread they weren't watching/won't watch a game this series.

I suppose I could start another short, pretty much useless thread if you'd like me to so that I can make a quick point...

I'd take a thank you tho.

Why not see the glass 3/4 full instead of 1/4 empty? This WAS a positive thread about appreciation of the FINALS intro.

I am being positive.

I should have mentioned something about the intro in my first post. I thought the blue pom-poms or whatever those things the fans have during player introductions were pretty cool. And the country dude singing the anthem sucked... that was the only sucky part of the intro.

I was just making a point that seemed to be leveled against me and other rational Mavs fans previously. I didn't want to start another thread about just that topic, and I didn't mean to drag this thread down. So, I'll drop it and won't mention it in here again.

Seems like they like to drag in country singers to the finals. It always seems bizarre to me, because country music and basketball don't seem like they go together.

But I guess David Stern figures he needs to remind the viewing public that white people can watch basketball. :rolleyes

The intro to the Finals.

Great Job, ABC. It was nice to see an introduction, a lot of pagentry that had nothing to do with selling their own network, using their own stock footage, or making the NBA Finals fit into the sports world.

It was an introduction (and a pregame) built for basketball fans. It took the Finals and gave it a historical perspective, not just about the specific matchups - like it's just another playoff series. Excellent job. I don't say that often, so I'm going to say again: Great job, ABC.

I agree, that was a sweet intro. They picked and choosed some awesome playoff moments (the Duncan/David championship moment, the vintage Jordan playoff moment).

Although, I must admit it did hurt a little to see glimpses of the Spurs.

BTW, ABC really really really really really needs to get rid of Hubie Brown. WTF are they thinking letting him call the game? He's obviously very knowledgable about basketball and knows the stats/plays, etc. But no way is the guy built to be a primetown announcer during a championship game. He speaks the way he looks: Dead.

Gotta agree about Hubie...he looks like he has already been embalmed.

He is getting up there, but he's one of the best basketball minds the league has, and I could here him ramble on about the game all day long. He's great, even if it looks like he's been embalmed. It's a great compliment in style to the energetic Mike Breen. Unless there's someone of equal knowledge and experience of Brown, I don't want to see him go anywhere. Much better than Doc Rivers or the combination of Bill Walton and Tom Tolbert that ABC has used in the past.

There's something vintage about hearing Hubie calling Finals games again. Seeing old NBA on CBS tapes it was mostly Tommy Heinsohn or Hubie Brown doing the color commentary. It just gives the Finals that extra flavor of being interconnected with its past.

Did you know: A player is disqualified from playing in an NBA game if he commits 6 violations, called fouls. :wow
