Mine are

Sidney Portier
Spencer Tracy
Cary Grant
Gregory Peck
Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Robin Williams (his serious roles like Patch Adams and his proffessor role in Dead Poets Society are beyond genius)
Gary Sinese

What are yours?

Shame on me for forgetting Morgan, one of the best of all time, and greatest narrators of our time.

Mel Gibson as well, his performances in Braveheart and others were amazing.

Let me also add Sally Field, and Jack Nicholson.

You say, Jack Nicholson?

Watch, One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest.

Absolute acting brilliance.

Oh, Henry Fonda as well. 12 angry men is mindblowing.

??? I thought this was a thread about actors. Cruise belongs in the Movie Star thread, but it's an easy mistake to make. The media does it all of the time.

Kevin Spacey is probably my favourite. I loved him in The Usual Suspects in particular, though he's great in a lot of other stuff too.

William H. Macy is another good one, his defining role to me was in Fargo, he just plays a pathetic loser so well (I wonder what that says about him). :)

Ed Harris I like a lot, he was really good in Pollock and though he's not the leading man in too many films I think he's a really good actor.

I wasn't a big fan of Gladiator, but I though Russell Crowe's performance in A Beautiful Mind was amazing. He was good in The Insider, too.

Robert DeNiro goes without saying really, but I'll add that I loved him in Raging Bull anyway. That might be my favourite perfomance by an actor of all time.

Al Pacino as well, I think he was in this movie called The Godparent, or something. :lol

As for television actors I love watching Hugh Laurie as House and I always liked James Spader playing Alan Shore (although as far as I know Spader's been in a bunch of movies as well).

Finally, I like Samuel L Jackson and Christopher Walken, even though they're probably not in the same calibur as the others. Samuel L cause he's the coolest motherfucker in the history of the world, and Walken cause he does weird so well. Plus he was great in The Deer Hunter.
