I'm getting one of these two companies...Dish has the better package that I want, but I've read some horror stories about their service...
Does anyone have Dish here? Are you happy with the service, products? Thanks.

I don't know much about Dish but I've got a DirecTV DVR and man, that thing is amazing. It's not even a high-end model or anything ("only" holds 35 hours) but I just love it. Can't recomend it highly enough.

I have Dish Network the customer service that DirecTV gave me was total shit.
I have had nothing but good with Dish Network, I have the 2 room DVR and I have 100 hours worth of recording time, and I love it!
everybody told me to go with DirecTV and I was going to, but I got tired of the run-around with them.

Super, thanks peeps. I went with Dish...this was before any replies came in...
They just had the better deal, but let's see how it goes. I'll give my feedback/eperience after the installation for anyone else making this decision soon....

Dish Network works fine but pray that non of your equipment malfunctions or you'll be paying a hefty price to replace it ($99 service calls w/out a contract, $39 w/ contract).

I went without contract. 18 months just too long.
And what you mention Dan is one item I had read about when I was doing my due diligence. It's a little scary. Honestly I wanted to go with Directv, but Dish could tailor a bigger, better Korean channel package for the Korean in-laws coming to visit for awhile. I just hope and pray everything goes smooth.

Well, I've shared my Dish Network experience before but I'll do it again.
We were Dish customers for a good 5 years before we moved to Floresville to be next to Mrs. ASF's mom who had just been diagnosed with cancer. Almost immediately, my mother-in-law became a permanent fixture on my couch, so I called Dish Network to see if they could cut me a deal on a system for her house (to get her out of MINE!). After explaining the situation to the ever so helpful customer service agent, he suggested that rather than set up another account, we buy another tuner and dish and set it up as another room on our account for only $4.99 a month. Keep the fact that a Dish Network customer service agent set this up for me in mind, because it's going to come into play later in the story.
A couple of years later, we experienced some trouble with the set up at her house, so I called customer service to see if they could fix the problem. They did, but apparently they noticed that the tuner in question was not at the billing address so they turned off my service completely. When I called in to find out why I had no service, they said they needed to run a test on my equipment. I said fine, so they had me read off the serial numbers of my tuners. When I got to my mother-in-law's tuner, I said I'd have to call them back because that one was next door. At this point, the lady I was speaking to informed me that I was in violation of my contract and I was in effect STEALING their service by having a tuner set up at another location. When I informed her that THEY TOLD ME TO DO THIS, she very snottily said there was no way one of their agents would suggest that I STEAL their service in this manner. She said I would have to talk to a supervisor to get my service turned back on. I told her not to bother connecting me, I hung up, and called Hill Country Satellite and I've been a happy DirecTv subscriber ever since.
Screw Dish Network.
