Click on the "Chatroom" link in the above bar between "Members" and "vBookie".

Let's test this out. Hopefully timvp coded it correctly. :drunk

not for me...it locks up and gives me a warning message about the flash stuff. when I click yes...it freezes up every time. If I say no, nothing.

Kori Ellis
10-16-2004, 06:39 PM
Well if your computer can't handle Flash, then that's why.

pooh
10-16-2004, 06:42 PM
It can handle flash not something of that size and such...it warns me it will slow the computer down to a halt and it does.

I tried again...no dice.

Here is the message I get:

A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 7 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?

If I hit yes, the browser begins to flicker and shows a bunch of small words and boxes. If I click on no, I get a black screen and a half image of Duncan, then it stops totally.

Kori Ellis
10-16-2004, 07:18 PM
Like I explained to you, your computer doesn't have enough memory to handle it. There's nothing I can do about that.

Crashed on me initially running from Opera. Trying from IE now and seems fine.

Kori Ellis

Everyone should run it IE. Despite the high percentage of people in this forum on other browsers, 98% of the internet world still uses Explorer. So most software is not perfected for anything else.

ChumpDumper
10-16-2004, 08:01 PM
It was a complete memory pig in Firefox. Didn't try it in IE, but you're probably going to need more than 256mb to run chat, the Ticket's feed and Yahoo GameChannel like I was trying at work.

Kori Ellis
10-16-2004, 08:13 PM
Pooh has like 25MB RAM. There's nothing I can do for him short of buying him a computer.

Everyone should run it IE. Despite the high percentage of people in this forum on other browsers, 98% of the internet world still uses Explorer. So most software is not perfected for anything else. Hmm... I beg to differ. Of all end users, less than 90% use some variant of a MS OS. So that's at least 10% of Unix and Mac users that don't have IE. In addition, several MS users use some browser other than IE, such as Opera, Firefox, Mozilla, etc.

I am not complaining... if I cannot chat in here, though luck.
As you can see, I am not very fond of MS products http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/images/smilies/smielephant.gif

P.S.: I have 384MB on a dual boot window box at home and I still get the flash thingy consuming too many resources from time to time, even when using IE :cry

timvp
10-16-2004, 10:10 PM
So you can't get in, RVB?

It worked fine on Mozilla (a Firefox cousin).

That's weird. I'll try to research why you get that, only a few people have that problem. We'll see what we can do.

I didn't notice any real drag on resources using Firefox.

We just changed some settings to help some of your memory usage.

Also make sure that you have the latest version of Flash.

I installed flash 7.0 on a laptop computer I am fixing for a customer
has 192 memory
500 mobile processor and it could not handle it

it is not my computer so I do not care. It works on my mac and my laptop has 256 memory so it should work on it.

I am at the office right now (yes, I know I should get a life, but it's a deadline :-(

I have a dual processor 1GB ram box with Linux + Mozilla + flash 7.0 r25 and I cannot get in the chat. The mozilla process consumes 100% of one of my cpus.

At home I've been able to use the chat in the past, when booting on Windows and using IE, but sometime after a while, flash complains about excesive usage resource.

Anyway, not a big deal. Thanks to Kori and timvp for all your effort in providing us all these great resources!

Good nite

Well we are making adjustments to the settings, but your case seems extreme. Hopefully we can adjust some stuff and make it work for you.

Anyone having trouble with it hogging too much memory should:

- Verify installation of Flash plugin 7.0.19 (right click in Flash and select About ... )
- Delete all old Flash cookies (Application Data/Macromedia/Flash Player)
- Update to latest MozillaFirefox 1.0 RC1 (if applicable)

We also adjusted some different settings, so that should help.

Thanks.

Hmm, works fine for me in opera.

I'm using the 7.60 Technical Preview Release though
http://my.opera.com/community/dev/tp/760/

So any opera users having trouble upgrade to that and should work.
