Cheney: Iraq at a "Turning Point"

Vice President Cheney said today that when this period in the Iraq war is remembered, it will be seen as a turning point for the long-term future of the embattled country.

Cheney, speaking at the Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize luncheon in Washington, also said it was "not an accident" that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.

( but that attack was fully under the responsibilty of dickhead's Repug White House and its executive branch. )

"This will have been, from a historical turning point, the period that we'll be able to look at and say: That's when we turned the corner; that's when we began to get a handle on the long-term future of Iraq," Cheney said in response to a question at the National Press Club luncheon.

Cheney cited the election of an interim government in Iraq, the drafting of a constitution, the national referendum approving the constitution, and the recent appointment of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as signs that the future is more positive in Iraq.

Cheney said the principal reason Americans have been "safe and secure" in the United States during the past five years is that the United States has "gotten extremely aggressive at taking the battle to the enemy overseas."

( what total BULLSHIT. The phony Repug Iraq war has done abosutely nothing to increase the security of the USA. )

He also said that measures taken internally -- such as the controversial USA Patriot Act and the warrantless terrorist surveillance program -- have also contributed.

Cheney said the biggest threat "now is the possibility of an al-Qaeda cell armed with a nuclear weapon or a biological agent in the middle of one of our cities."

( .... he's reading the Rove list of campaign talking points, trying to scare the shit out of everybody, then the will say ONLY Repugs are to be trusted with national security ( the Repugs didn't stop the WTC attack, they lied about Iraq, no thinking person trusts them anymore), and anybody who is against the Repugs is a traitor and coward. big fucking yawn. We've seen the same bullshit many times before. )

Again? Wasn't the "turning point" supposed to be after we caught Saddam? That was supposed to quell the insurgency.

There is a limit to the stupidity of the American people, and I think the GOP is going to find it in November...

This war has more turning points than a NASCAR race.
