Heat-Mavericks G5: One win away
[Updated Monday morning, 6-19, following Miami's 101-100 OT victory over Dallas that gives the Heat a 3-2 NBA Finals lead heading back to the D].

Sunday's Game 5 of the NBA Finals here had a Game 7, championship-game feel, and with reason. Of Finals series tied 2-2, the G5 winner has gone on to be champ 18 of 24 times. Miami needing to win one of two in Dallas now sounds doable (not to be mistaken for anything approaching easy), where needing to win both would have been a huge, unlikely task.

Seems like Dallas has its excuses all lined up should the Heat end up raising the trophy. There is the Jerry Stackhouse ejection, the free-throw disparity Sunday night, and of course the timeout controversy in the final seconds.

Plus, the Mavs argued that Dwyane Wade was not fouled by Dirk Nowitzki on the call that set up his two winning free throws with 1.9 seconds left. And he wasn't. By Dirk. But Wade was fouled. Slo-mo replays clearly show Devin Harris grabbing him on the right inner-elbow. All in all, the guess here is that Mavs owner Mark Cuban (pictured in both photos here) is not a happy fella at the moment and was honking and braying all the way back to Dallas.

Jerry Stackhouse, by the way, thoroughly deserved his one-game suspension for the flagrant foul on Shaq. Don't let Mavs fans or Cuban try to tell you otherwise.

I am beginning to wonder how this young Dallas squad managed to get by the San Antonio Spurs?

Giving Dirk whatever he wants.

That does it.

it was nice to see Dirk when his whistle protection was lifted.
