Rasho > Dampier?
Is Dampier the best center in the West ?
If so, then Dampier > Rasho, but I'm not sure if I believe that.
Discuss.
Sorry was considering best centers thread and couldn't resist this.

Yao is the best center in the west, followed closely by Michael Finley.
Dampier is good, better than Rasho, but Mavfans mistook effective double teaming of Shaq as great individual D by Dampier. Of course those guys think Diop > Damp too, so there you go....

Give me some credit, Chumpdumper. Hopefully, you know that I'm not that dumb!!!
But, allow me to ask a serious question:
Why is Dampier better than Rasho? Rasho can hit the set shot and Dampier can't. Neither one is great offensively, but Dampier makes Rasho look like an offensive juggernaut.
Is Dampier that much better a defender and rebounder.
Rasho plays good d with our schemes, but Dampier is a better shotblocker. At least, lately, Dampier has been the better rebounder.

Yao is obviously best center in the West.
Just joshin around about Damp being best in the West (cuz he claimed that he was).
Diop leaves his feet too much.

Amare>Yao>Camby>Brad Miller>Chris Kaman>Okur>Dampier>Rasho
I would agree with that, but I don't really consider Amare a center. I think of him more like a power forward.
If Yao were a better rebounder and a little quicker, I would also disagree with it. Yao tries to draw charges too often.
Kaman > Camby (even if Camby is the better shot blocker)
Kaman > Miller (not enough production- double doubles, not the shot blocker, not the rebounder that Kaman is even if Miller has the better j (which he does).
Wow, this turned into a serious thread and it started as kind of a joke.

Dampier has the worst set of hands in the league. He looks impressive in uniform...until the game starts. He scores most of his points during warmups. Still think he is only averaging about 5 a game.
Then again, we had to endure the Shawn Bradley Flop-A-Thon for how many years???
I suggest that we make a straight up trade with you guys- Damp for Rasho.

1) Dampier is a better hustle player than Rasho.
2) Dampier is a better rebounder than Rasho.
3) Dampier is a slightly better offensive player than Rasho, at least he dunks
4) Dampier managed to get to the foul line more than Rasho (See first point)
5) Rasho appears to be a better defender, however, that is most likely the result of the team defense which he plays under and the fact that he has Tim Duncan next to him
6) Dampier does all of the above a little more consistently than Rasho as well

No, Nazr has the worst hands of anybody in the league, by far, by a mile!!!
And neither of them were exactly steals!!!
Both too expensive. Neither are starters, but at least you all used Dampier.
Not us. Paid all that money and have nothing to show for it. And who wants him with that salary? Maybe the knicks will take him?

Damp has always been a better rebounder. Blocking is pretty much a wash. Offensively, Rasho's range is countered by Damp's relative agressiveness.
The thing about Dampier is that he will always play down to the level of his competition, and when I say that I mean competition on his own team for the center spot. He was forever switching starts with Adonal Foyle in Golden State and he's doing the same with Diop in Dallas. He is clearly the better and more complete player in both situations, he just doesn't give as much of a shit as those two guys. So at some point, those guys displace him as starting C and fans, GMs and owners start overvaluing the shit out of those guys and start thinking of ways to get rid of Damp since he is underachieving. The result? $51 million for a scrub like Adonal Foyle. God knows what Diop is going to get two years from now....

I have another chapter to read before class which starts in about 90 minutes. Can't put off the inevitable.

No. Whatever his flaws, Dampier is one of the best rebounders in the NBA and can actually finish at the rim. They're comparable defenders. Both are somewhat underrated, though, and both are starter-quality centers in today's NBA.
Tim Duncan and Yao Ming are clearly the best centers in the NBA, with Camby, Kaman, and whichever of Diaw and Stoudemire starts for Phoenix next year behind them in the West.

Dampier is extremely average. He's good in the roll he has. If he has to play starter minutes he gets exposed.
I'm a fan of Kaman. I also like Okur. Camby is a walking injury.
I know it's in the East, but I'm curious to see how much Bogut improves in the offseason. He's kind of an interesting player.

LOL…. Could not have said it better myself…… I like Damp, and the Warriors since I was a kid…. I have seen many games where you have to wonder what he was smoking before the game…….. Lethargic and lazy… You piss him off and you will get a rise out of him but he is way to easy going…
The one exception to that is ShaQ… he will always step up and play his best games against him. Not sure why… Any team that is considering the post season going up against ShaQ would definitely be interested in Damp……..
Adonal Foyle just one more stupid…. FUCKING STUPID deal done by St. Jean…. When I think of the players that have gone through there it makes me sick..
Not sure Mullin is going to do much better.. ????
I thought dumping Mussleman was pretty stupid considering he was the only one in the life time of most people here that could actually do anything with the “great talent” they had… Adelman, Nelly, PJ etc… Montgomery???? I am still not impressed
