According to this, Speedy does have interest on returning to the Spurs.
Speedy Claxton would be a good fit in Dallas and it's a possibility, but he's expressed some interest in returning to San Antonio.
-- Dallas Morning News
so, how bout this.
Know since one of the hold ups on the trade with JR Smith trade was the Hornets traded for Jackson first and he took up the salary cap room that was left, which would've absorb the difference between Barry's and Smith. Now their salary's don't match up.
Hornets sign and trade Speedy + Smith for Barry and Beno. Speedy will still have a good salary, so that shouldn't hold him back from coming. Hornets get two shooters they covert, plus a young pg to replace the depature of Speedy.
What do you think, we don't have to use are MLE on a pg and can still use it for a long 3 or basically anyone that comes about.
Parker - Speedy
Manu - JR Smith
Bowen - Finley - Williams
TD - Bonner - Horry
Oberto - RJ - ???

I think the deal, if it happens, will be S&T Nazr and Barry to the Hornets for J.R. Smith, Arvydas Macijauskas, and a newly signed Speedy Claxton.

The 5 spot is still a toss up on who will start, will know more when we sign and trade Nazr (hopefully).
My guess is Bonner starts at 5, but plays the 4.

I'd take it. Sounds pretty good in all cases. I'm a bit reluctant to see Barry go if we get Claxton, due to injury concerns. But in all cases it seems to work.

Which is why I doubt we'll be trading Beno.

They do need a center, but I doubt they're salaries match.
Barry and Nazr together would be around 10 mil and JR, Arvydas and Speedy wouldn't match that.
Unless its Barry and Nazr for PJ, SPeedy and JR.
I would do that.

But thats were RC Burford said they'll be looking into a yound 3rd sting pg. I doubt they're counting on Beno being the backup pg.

The Hornets want to select higher in the draft and are trying to package JR Smith with their picks for a higher pick.

pj brown tell them you want to play for a contender
spurs could fill the hole for one year with pj brown and then hope their young guns will be ready the next year

True, but if no one bites. They're down in the high teens. All the good prospects are in the single digits. I doubt anybody trades with them.

Hornets have a lot of cap room. They want to get a shooter, PG, and a center. They have a lot of holes to fill and probably enough money to do it.

They aren't in the high teens. They have two picks - 12 and 15.

I don't know that they were over the cap. And they have a lot of players off the books - Speedy, AWilliams, Lynch, Anderson, etc. They only have $32M in committed salary.

The Hornets don't want JR Smith. They will send him off if the right deal comes along. I know there is a team out there that has something the Hornets want and that team will probably take a chance on JR Smith.

he is the best option out there
also he has one year on his contract
hopefully by then the spurs will have their euro bigs ready to be starters

Are they that much under? I don't keep up with other teams salary cap situation, but they must have a lot of player coming off the books to be way under.

Trade sounds great, maybe if we could lie to the Hornets as well and tell them David West isnt good they would trade him to us for Nazr. And Bonner better not start

Wow, Desmond Mason is making 8 mil this yr. I doubt they pick Moochie 4 mil. They are way under. And no one making over 8.

You can't be a slut and then go back to being a fresh schoolgirl. N.O. was shopping him for NOTHING this spring, destroyed his value, and now he's going to help them move up? Don't think so...

I do think that Speedy knows the score now and realizes that he can either backup on a team that has a chance to win a title or he can start for a team that is some distance away from playoff contention. It sounds like he's weighing that truth and considering which is the better course for him. I'd be all for him returning to San Antonio -- there would be no quicker (or better) combination of points in the league than Parker and Claxton.
I'm not so sure I understand the fascination that so many around here have for J.R. Smith. That the Spurs nearly dealt for him in mid-season doesn't mean that he's the best option available -- or even that it would have been a wise deal.

it is because he was almost a spur
I do not see the love for speedy or jackson
they were ok players but not great
one thing that bothers me about speedy is no jumpshot
if tony is off speedy does not help
beno can but if he is 3 point guard then his confidence will be gone again and he will be USELESS

Barry for Smith could happen at any time now that the season has ended. Could be on draft night if the Hornets are unable to move up.

Of course, the Hornets may wait to see where the cap is set at before doing such a deal, if such deal is still possible.

We'll know in 6 days. I think if the draft comes and Smith isn't moved, he's as good as our's.

I'd be happier to keep Barry and trade Beno. Barry has been a solid backup PG, defender, shooter, and spaces the floor well. Beno has been shaky. I think he needs to go to a lottery team where he gets a lot of minutes, and become a solid PG. But it's not gonna happen here.

With Finley emerging as our top wing player off the bench, we don't need to keep Barry. Spurs have to get younger, more athletic and cheaper at that spot.
I like the idea of packaging Barry, Beno and whatever else required to acquire Speedy and Smith.
I understand the Mavs are "lusting" after Speedy too.

I agree. For everything that Barry does right, he does 4 things wrong. I believe he is a player that needs far more touches to be consistent. He'll never get them as a Spur. It took Finley some time to adjust to his role but I think he was finally getting it figured out late in the season. Speedy was a solid backup for SA and he only moved on after Pop encouraged him to take the chance to be a starter. He got screwed on that deal (through no fault of ours). I think Barry will follow the path of Turkoglu, he'll play better for another team that can give him his touches and overlook his screwups. I think we get a known commodity with Speedy.

He couldn't even do that. He said he started for about 5 minutes, and he realizes he made a mistake. He said publicly that he regrets not taking the Spurs' offer and staying here...and that if he has to come off the bench, he'd rather do it here.

I would LOVE to have Speedy back. To me he is the ideal 3rd guard in a championship rotation. Actually he is just an excellent guard to have in general.
But to me seems like a pipe dream. Not that Speedy wouldn't want to come back, but I just get the feeling it is unlikely. (Seems to good to be true in a sense).

if speedy wants to come back, i think the SA front office will love to have him back. again, the only reason he left is because he wanted the chance to be a starter. but its obvious that if he starts for any team, they will not be anywhere near the level of a championship contender. and speedy is not a bad player at all, he can play alongside tony parker, as he did with chris paul. im not sure that we can still get jr smith, but then again the trade only failed because it was submitted to the league just minutes after the deadline. PJ Brown wouldbe a good fit here. i mean,he did visit san antonio a couple of years ago. the same year that Jermaine Oneal, and T-Mac mentioned the spurs as places they wanted to play.he obivously wanes to play for a contender.
