He has two years left on his contract but has said that he might retire after next season.

I think if we win it all this year he sticks around as a 12th man (he might play... but at that age it would be sparingly) to see if he can get number 8. If not then he'll probably retire.

My guess, this is his last season.
Hopefully he goes out with one more ring and we bring him back as an assistant or in some capacity.

If he wants to retire at the end of this next season then I wonder how much of a buyout he'd have. His contract isn't huge, but it would be nice to shave some off of it if hes going to walk prematurely.

Well, duh. But the team has him under contract to play. He can't retire without some sort of buyout agreement or just by turning down all the money I suppose. But I'm sure he'll want some sort of paycheck out of it.

I'm not familiar with the rules on it...
But you would think if he says "I quit" the teams not obligated to pay him jack.

it isnt his last year before he retires, he sait it himself. he said that his goal in the nba is to play at least 15 years. and he also said that if he feels that he can still contribute then he will keep playing

No ring in 07', no more Horry. He'll hang em up after this season or maybe go back to Houston for his final season next year in a trade of some sort.

It's my understanding that when he signed the 3-year contract, he expected to play 2 years of it and get paid for the 3rd ("There is a clause in the third year of the deal that would allow the Spurs to buy out the final year.")

Nothing is definite, he could decide he wants to play another year, but chances are this upcoming season will be his last.

Interesting.
That means that if Horry want to retire at the end of the season, Spurs won't have to pay his full salary in 07-08. The max allowed for the buyout by the CBA is 50% of the salary ie $1.8M for Horry.
Bowen has the same clause for the last year of his contract at $2M and Lakers used a clause like that with Divac last summer.
