First of all, does anyone know where he's playing? It doesn't look like he's on the same Russian Superleague B team anymore.

He's now on the roster for BC Khimky Moscow in the Superleague A.
If you can read Russian, here is Khimky's link. Sergei is #7
http://www.basket.ru/old_site/Team.asp?id=1377
and here is the Euroleague (English) link

Awesome find, Solid D.
He has some good players on his team. Ruben Wolkowyski, Oscar Torres and Melvin Booker are pretty good. I wonder if he'll get any playing time.
Any word on when their season starts?

timvp - it looks like they've just started the season.

You might want to take a look at the link I posted for Eurobasket again and down at the bottom of the page on the left hand side are some writers (mostly female) you or Kori could click on their picture and email them to see if any of them could speak English and be sort of a Karaulov correspondent for updates. Just an idea.

Thank goodness his team is playing in the FIBA Cup competition too. Cyrillic hurts my eyes.

Looks like him. Could be wrong though, there's supposed to be one other guy as tall on the team -- Denis Ershov. Actually a bit taller.
If I got the name right, the team site lists him as #17, but we'll know in a week when the games start.

Please bare in mind that my Russian is really bad but this is what I figured out:
Stats are published at http://www.basket.ru (http://www.basket.ru/) part of this website is in English (a small part) the stats however are not.
Sergei is listed as part of the Khimki 2nd team (SuperLeague B). I checked the results for Khimki in Superleague A and Sergei did not play in any of the two rounds (he's not even on the roster).
Superleague B stats for Sergei:
Date Oponent Min. Points FG 3P FT DR OR TO BS AS ST PF
10/09 Dizelist 18 6 2/4 0/0 2/4 4 3 5 0 1 1 1
10/10 Dizelist 12 2 1/2 0/0 0/0 1 1 2 0 2 0 1

10/24 LenVO 29 13 6/8 0/0 1/2 4 7 4 5 2 0 2
P.S. How do you format tables to look better? Can you import tables from Excel or similar?

I was never sure he was on that team because, though he is listed here

he doesn't have a number next to his name.
Interesting.

Thanks Slomo. I had a feeling you'd be able to come through to help us here :)
I guess it's not great news that he's not in SuperLeague A. He started off the season slow but he's beginning to put up very nice numbers. We'll keep an eye on him and track his progress.
P.S.

I had a feeling you'd be able to come through to help us hereBarely, I do not remember much of my Russian, but I do still know the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet (the Serbs also use it although it is slightly different) so guessing the stats is not that difficult.

What about this roster (posted earlier)? Perhaps it is obsolete.

That's weird. I haven't followed this link, but went directly to the games results where Sergei is not listed. ie: http://www.basket.ru/old_site/Game.asp?id=28761 and then I found him both on the B team roster and in the stats. He is also missing from the team's season stats http://www.basket.ru/old_site/Team.asp?ID=1377&v=stats.
Something is obviously out of date, let's wait for the next games and see where he plays. There's a SuperLeague A game for Khimky Oct. 29th. and a game for their B team on Oct. 27th.

This is dated material but it is the English version of the BC Khimki site. It proves that Karaulov has been with this club, albeit in a minor way up until September. There are several articles with info on Sergei. Here is some of it pasted in:
================================================== ==============
Dmitry EVDOKIMOV
20.09.04
Debut of the Russian club on Italian courts was triumphal. In semies BC Khimki beat Lauretana, Biello 78-74 (16-20, 19-17, 19-19, 24-18), in the "medal" game team from Moscow Region was stronger than Mabo, Livorno - 79-62 (22-21, 19-17, 24-6, 14-18). MVP of the tournament - Melvin Booker
In the first half of the game vs Lauretana Khimki players couldn’t manage to organize the offense, once they lost even 12 points. Only good defense and rebounding (Russian team won rebounds - 54-30) helped Khimki. Everything changed after the big break. But only 13th 3-point attempt was exact. But this shoot of Savkov had whipped up his teammates. In the last quarter four consecutive “bombs” of Booker have defined winner.
BC Khimki: Booker (21 + 10 rebounds + 4 assists), Vuksanovic (15), Solovjev (12 + 9 rebounds), Savkov (9), Torres (7 + 16 rebounds), Zamansky (7), Krasnikov (4), Levter (3), Ershov, Goliakhov, Karaulov.
Our defense in the main game of the tournament deserved reprobation in the first quarter only. We have missed 7 three pointers. In remained 30 minutes - only two. The key to the Russians' victory was their tough and very active mixed defense, played in the second half. This was the main contribution to our victory and has defined the winner in already in the third period.
BC Khimki: Booker (15 + 6 rebounds + 5 assists), Torres (8 + 9 rebounds), Krasnikov (4), Vuksanovic (21), Solovjev (10 + 8 rebounds + 3 steals) - starting five. Zamansky (14), Savkov (6), Ershov (3), Fomin (1), Goliakhov, Karaulov.

Sergey KARAULOV, C, 1982 215, last year played for SAKHA, Yakutsk, RUS D-2. San Antonio Spurs drafted him in NBA draft-2004, overall # 57. In Russian second Division he played 9 games (Sakha left competitions due to financial problems), 29:11 mpg, 17,2 ppg, 9,5 rpg, 2,8 bpg.
S E: Sergey is a gifted athlete and person. He has a purpose, to rich high integer. Karaulov works with desire, capable to analytical work, understands that to do that all execute better. This'll allow him to progress quickly.
================================================== =============
6.06.04
Sergey Karaulov BC Khimki newcomer (Center, 1982, 215, played in Sakha, Yakutsk, Superliga B ) was drafted by San Antonio Spurs, 57 draft pick overall, second round. Head coach of the team Sergey Elevich considers that Sergey is not ready yet to play in NBA, he have no experience of playing on serious level
On the draft eve Elevich said that he satisfied the club selection functioning on Russia market. BC Khimki manage to reach agreements with perspective center Sergey Karaulov.
- Sergey began the past season in Yakutsk. But "Saha" left the championship after 10 games. (In rest 38 matches the club was recorded defeats 0-20, and the final club results were: 4 wins 44 loses, 827/1654, 14 points). Few months Karaulov work with Khimki . But official contract (long-term agreement) was concluded with him only at June.
- Was a surprise for you that little known even in Russia basketball player find him in draft list?
- He told to me that he interested NBA scouts. But I did not expect that Sergey would turn out to be in Spurs list immediately. Will be able person from Russian Division B to become player NBA? I think not yet. Karaulov needs to show himself in Russia, in high-level games. Agreement between BC Khimki and Sergey is concluded for 5 years. I think that now many clubs will be interested in him. But want to declare officially: Karaulov is not sold.
Karaulov average last season statistics: 29,2 minutes; 17,2 points; 9,5 rebounds; 2,8 blocks; 1,8 assists; 1,5 steals her game.

He didn't play for the A team in FIBA league competition -- so either he's on the bench or on the B team. I would guess the latter from Slomo's posts.

Sergei played on their B team again yesterday. I wonder how difficult it is for players to migrate between the A and B squads? I noticed that many Russian Superleague clubs operate A and B teams.

I found his teams website...
http://www.basket.ru/old_site/Team.asp?ID=1377&v=stats&l=e
Damned if I am gonna try and format that statline though...
Basically he's played 6 games and averaged:
PPG - 3.3
FG% - 46%
FT% - 50%( maybe that's why the Spurs drafted him ;) )
BPG - 1
RBPG - 3.6
Draws 1 foul per game
Commits 2.5
I think that's what it is on fouls...but I can't be certain.
His blocks, ppg and rebound totals look decent for a guy playing 9 mins per game...but the 2.5 fouls kinda don't look too hot.
I wonder what made the Spurs draft this guy since he's already 23 and looks like he's going to be a project for a lot longer.

Nice find. It's nice to see that he's at least playing.
I wonder if the Spurs will bring him in this summer for a workout. There's been almost not talk about him since the Spurs drafted him.
The team he's on looks pretty good. Oscar Torres and Ruben W. are good borderline-NBA talent.
If the Spurs strike gold with this guy, I'd be convinced that other teams are just clueless about overseas scouting.
