WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said
Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

ICE officials found a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a drug that treats erectile dysfunction, in his luggage, Miller said.

"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Miller said.

Limbaugh reached a deal last month with prosecutors who had accused the conservative talk-show host of illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping painkiller prescriptions.

The matter Monday was referred to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Limbaugh.

"He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors," Miller said.

Investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.

The sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.

"We believe there may be a second-degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.

A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

Under Limbaugh's deal with prosecutors, the charge, commonly referred to as "doctor shopping," would be dismissed after 18 months if he continues to submit to random drug tests and treatment for his acknowledged addiction to painkillers.

One aspect that this story doesn't raise is that Limpballs isn't allowed to violate any laws under his previous plea agreement for his conviction on doctor shopping charges.

Rush Limbaugh, sex tourist?
Questions for the nation's number one conservative.

As Melissa noted earlier in PEEK, from a CBS story: "Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription."

He was reportedly returning from the Dominican Republic at the time which, as Terrance Heath notes, leaves a big, gaping hole in the story.

What was Rush doing in the Dominican Republic? Why was he returning from a country known for its thriving sex trade, with a bottle of Viagra that didn’t have his name on it?

From a 2001 Wired.com article:

the Dominican Republic is one of the biggest sex tourism destinations in the world, thanks in part to Internet sites that extol the country as a "single man's paradise."

...

Among banner ads for Viagra, members can shuffle through pictures of dull-eyed prostitutes engaged in flagrante delicto with the members/amateur pornographers.

Speaking of the 'wood on loan from God'...

"Oh, no, I'll listen to anything about sex. ... My friends, I'm a pervert. I like kinky weird sex and I'm going to continue to like kinky weird sex."

I caught a moment or two of his show today. He made a crack about getting the Viagra at the gift shop at the Clinton library although I don't believe "the Big Dawg" uses the little blue pills. He also said he had been to the Dominican with 24 men. :wow

It appears this has no bearing on his current troubles with the law whereby he has to submit to random drug testing but nonetheless, he could be looking at some hard time here. :lol

On the serious side, here is a guy who's brother David Limbaugh is a member of the religious right and Rush has aligned himself with the Dobson types as of late taking Viagra along on a vacation. Rush is not married currently so, tut tut, he should not be having any sex. I know he is an adult and all that but he is espouses a political philosophy that doesn't allow for sex without the benefit of marriage. He has wanted to have a voice in whether women should be allowed contraception or the "morning after pill". The hypocrisy is just delicious.

Limbaugh joked about the search on his radio show Tuesday, saying Customs officials didn't believe him when he said he got the pills at the Clinton Library and he was told they were blue M&Ms. He later added, chuckling: "I had a great time in the Dominican Republic. Wish I could tell you about it."

It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party's name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County. He would not discuss specifics in the Limbaugh case Tuesday.

The sheriff's office was continuing its investigation and would soon turn the case over to prosecutors, Edmondson said. The alleged violation could be a second-degree misdemeanor if Limbaugh's doctor doesn't confirm the prescription.

This latest case may simply be dismissed if prosecutors can confirm with Limbaugh's doctor that the prescription was indeed for Limbaugh, said Kendall Coffey, a former U.S. attorney in Florida.

Limbaugh's lawyer, Roy Black, said the prescription was written in Limbaugh's doctor's name "for privacy purposes."

When he sides with the abstinence crowd it shows his hyprocisy. It's not my side of the political spectrum that is trying to regulate bedroom behavior, it's his.

Octillo, the political parties aren't a reflection of every action by every supporter of its Party. Likewise being a supporter of a particular Party doesn't mean that you swear allegiance to every stance or act of the particular Party.

No story unless you're desperate for one my friend.

What's really ironic is that the prescription was put in his doctor's name to spare Rush the publicity - guess that whole plan backfired!!

Oh well, at least he's had a sense of humor about it.
