There was a pretty good ESPN (I think Page 2) article that did this. Check their archives, I remember it being a good read.

1999 draft wasn't bad. Manu would be probably somewhere in the top 7.

2001 draft was shit in retrospect. In the top 10, only Gasol, Jason Richardson and Joe Johnson are anything. Tony, as a PG, might go #1 overall.

I'd fire a GM who worked for me and picked Zach Randolph over Tony Parker.

Thanks, FWD.

Manu would probably be 3rd in 1999, behind Elton Brand (1) and Shawn Marion (9).

Here's how the top 15 would look, IMO...

1. Elton Brand (1)
2. Shawn Marion (9)
3. Emmanuel Ginobili (57)
4. Richard Hamilton (7)
5. Andrei Kirilenko (24)
6. Ron Artest (16)
7. Lamar Odom (4)
8. Jason Terry (10)
9. Baron Davis (3)
10. Corey Maggette (13)
11. Steve Francis (2)
12. Wally Szczerbiak (6)
13. Andre Miller (8)
14. Jeff Foster (21)
15. James Posey (18)

An interesting draft really, I'm sure a lot of people would quibble with my rankings for 3-12, but a lot of those players are fairly close, guys who aren't superstars but have made an All-Star game or two. The 2nd round of the draft, except for Gino of course, was a complete disaster. Some really fringe players sticking around on rosters, but the best of the lot is Gordan Giricek at # 40.

Tony's draft, 2001, was a lot weaker, and it could be argued that the Warriors actually took the two best players. (In fact, I think they did). But overall, just a mediocre draft, some decent to good starters, but nothing to get too excited about.

1. Gilbert Arenas (31)
2. Pau Gasol (3)
3. Jason Richardson (5)
4. Tony Parker (28)
5. Richard Jefferson (13)
6. Mehmet Okur (38)
7. Joe Johnson (10)
8. Zach Randolph (19)
9. Gerald Wallace (25)
10. Eddy Curry (4)
11.Bobby Simmons (42)
12.Tyson Chandler (2)
13.Troy Murphy (11)
14. Shane Battier (6)
15. Jamaal Tinsley (27)

These lists were put together about a year ago, and some of the considerations in play then have changed a bit in the meantime.

On sheer talent, Artest is ridiculously low and I'd think that Hamilton would have been a better pick than Maggette.

I think the 2001 is pretty close to correct.

A year ago, that didn't look quite as stupid.

I hate Randolph. He's a cancer and one-dimensional, and his d makes Nazr look like Olajuwon.
