Texas Lottery Winner Killed in Shootout
CALDWELL, Texas (AP) -- A former Texas Lottery winner is dead after a shootout with sheriff's deputies and a state trooper at his rural Central Texas home.
Thomas Strong died yesterday near his rural home about six miles southeast of Caldwell -- or 23 miles southwest of Bryan.
Burleson County Sheriff Dale Stroud says Strong began firing shots at officers after they arrived at his house in response to reports of gunshots. The shootout continued as Strong took off in his pickup truck, leading police on a chase across State Highway 36. Strong was cut down by gunfire as he left his truck.
