Odom's 6-month-old baby dies

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom's 6½-month-old son has died, a spokesman for the team said Thursday.

Jayden Odom died Wednesday night, apparently suffocating while sleeping in his crib in New York, according to John Black.

"Lamar is very distraught," Black said. "Both he and the baby's mother are asking that people respect their privacy at this time."

Jayden was born Dec. 15. Odom has two older children -- a son and a daughter.

Man, no one ever deserves THAT to happen to them. I heard somewhere that one of the hardest things to ever have happen to you is to see your own kid die. But to lose him before he got the chance to live is too cruel.

i really feel sorry for him and his family, the sids talk they give at the hospital after birth is enough to terrify anyone. it's hard to sleep without waking up constantly to make sure your little one is still breathing. really sad that around 6 months is when most of the danger passes (from what i was told/read).

God bless the Odoms. I know what is like to lose a baby under tragic circumstances. I lost a cousin to a drunk driver. It feels like part of you gets riped out leaving you hollow.
