Skipped in NBA draft, Ray signs to play with Celts' summer teamStaff and Wire Reports
Allan Ray could wind up in the NBA after all.

Though snubbed in Wednesday's NBA draft, the former Villanova guard agreed this week to join the Boston Celtics' summer league team.

As a senior, he set a Wildcats record with 107 three-pointers and finished sixth on the school's career scoring list.

Some observers saw him as a possible second-round pick, but he was not taken. Teammates Randy Foye and Kyle Lowry were selected in the first round. Foye was drafted seventh overall by Boston, then dealt to Portland and then Minnesota. Lowry was drafted 24th overall by Memphis.

Ray, considered small for an NBA shooting guard at 6-2, was known for creating his own shot and could connect from NBA three-point range.

Danny Ainge, Boston's executive director of basketball operations, said Thursday that Ray had a shot at making the roster.

"I've never seen a college kid have as good a career as him and not get drafted," Ainge said. "We think he has a chance to make our team, and he was one of the best shooters in college basketball."
