Why would you be worried when the Spurs have 3 All Stars and a ton of deep playoff experience?

A lot of you people act like we need to tear it down and rebuild from scratch. SA needs pieces and parts, and RC and his group are usually adept at finding them.

because pieces and parts aren't all that easy to come by. especially big pieces. we need a center, backup pg (or two, who is really convinced beno will ever see meaningful playoff time?) athletic wing (replace bowen, get rid of barry). certainly we have a nice foundation, but that only takes you so far, as the dallas series showed.

You know, RC and Pop had an extra long off-season to figure things out, since we had a relatively early exit in this years play-offs. I got to think they targeted some guys they wanted, and are making moves to acquire those players. If all we did was sign Javtokas and trade Rash, I would be disapointed to be honest.

Youve got to be kidding.

your worried in the beginning of July?

Your worried about basketball offseason moves period?

Perspective man....

It might be that the Spurs are content to start the season with a group that looks a lot like last year's and to be patient to see what kind of trade possibilities might crop up as the season progresses. Fill in a couple of blanks with the MLE and the LLE and then just see what happens. It might be that they think they can get better value for what they're offering as next season progresses. In fact, that wouldn't shock me.

The group that ended last season is certainly capable of keeping the Spurs at or near the top of the division and the West. I'd like to see them address some problem areas, but frankly, why make a rash decision that you might later regret when better possibilities arise?

championships can be made in the offseason, as miami showed. yeah, it's early, so there's no need for panic, i hope, but s.a has never been a place players jump to run to.

Miami might've won a championship last year had Shaq and Wade been healthy.

The Rhodes Scholar of basketball talk speaks, and it is apreciated. :)

Great post and points FWD, that more than likely could be whats going on.

The Bonner Williams trade addressed some areas, and IMO, if they use the MLE on whoever and the LLE, this team has improved just on gaining what they have.

One or two bounces? The Spurs are in the Finals.

If they plug in guys with pulses, SA will be in the WCFs for the next four years, now that the seeding glitch has been fixed. Count on it.

They announced it during the playoffs. Top 4 in each conference strictly based on records. No more Denver, tied for 8th, seeded 3rd, and no more 1-2 matchups in the second round.

Forget the beginning of the playoffs when Stern announced teams would be seeded by record?

We only talked about that for days back in May....

Well, it's not strictly by record, only the top 4 spots, TPark. Denver still would have been #5, I believe, even though they were tied with Sacto for 8th record. I wish they WOULD do a straight seed, and eliminate any division "winners" that don't qualify. Denver damn near wouldn't have last year.

Too early to think too much about basketball. Baseball is in swing, but it's not a sport I care much about. When does the Cowboy's season start? August 12th? A month and a half to go.

Knowing the Spurs, they probably have some big deal brewing, but noone knows about it like always. I wouldn't worry about it. Their options are limited, but stranger things have happened before in free agency.

The way I read that, seeds 1-4 go to the division leaders and the top wild card, just like this year. But among the top 4 seeds, they are seeded by record. So under the new format, this year's top four seeds would be

1. Spurs
2. Dallas
3. Phoenix
4. Denver

the rest as before.

This still gives teams a powerful incentive to win their division, because they can be seeded higher than they really deserve -- so winning a division isn't irrelevant like it would be with a system like straight record seeding.

But it also eliminates any incentives like the Clippers had to tank to draw Denver. The top wildcard gets at least one home series. The second best wildcard draws the weakest opponent in the top 4 -- this year, Denver.
